OK guys and gals, you know I regularly go on Sunday nights after church, and that's tomorrow. Any bets on whether or not I collect another increment in the "kill 'em all" order from the landowner?

I am betting you connect on a decent-sized rogue boar.

Got your camera ready? Smiler

Good luck!

Well--another good night--cool, a bazillion stars, and a horde of pigs. Didn't show until about 11:45 but there were maybe 20 of them. Spooky--in and out, and one large boar I almost shot, but too big. Lined up on the ear of a small to medium pig and bang-flop. When I got the scope back on the feeder, there were two in the dirt, so it was a bang-flop-flop. Both sows, one about 55 lbs and one about 70 perhaps. Didn't know I had two lined up almost perfectly, but I did. One right behind the ear and one just under the eye. Don't know which one was the one in front.

dang Dustoffer,
six hogs in just three posts. You had a great nite. With all that action it sounds like its a good thing the hogs didn't show up till late. Otherwise you'd have been too busy to enjoy the wonders of the world in the eventide.
Keep up the good work. Enjoy your posts.

The site or my computer was squirrelly last night when I was trying to post the reply, or else I was, so ended up with multiples. I figured that was appropriate since I had a "two-fer".

Whitworth--what I mean by too big, is that when I put the scope on his silhouette at about 40 yds range, the image took up about 2/3rds of the width of the crosshairs-or so it seemed. Besides, he's a predator of piglets and the smaller ones are better eating and easier to handle.

I understand, I just have trouble resisting shooting the big ones!

Missed a Sunday night--didn't feel that with all my sneezing and coughing it would be productive, so went last night. Had a good night enjoying just sitting and napping in my chair, but no pigs.

Moon is getting too bright right now--they'll be coming later than I want to stay.

Congratus, job well done. I'm setting me up a feeder and light system for hog hunting. I hope I'm half as successful as you guys.

Larry--I found the landscape "spotlights" at WalMart for $20 for 2. They have a solar panel and rechargeable batteries and an electric eye that turns them on and off. Work like a champ, and it only took the hogs about 3 nights to get accustomed to them. They are not too bright, but bright enough that I can see crosshairs (std Leupold duplex) w/o a red light from 80 yds. I'm looking for the right heavy duplex scope now--probably will end up w/ a Leupold 2-7 shotgun model. That will be the cat's meow.

Wish we would have discussed this last week before I purchased a more expensive unit from an outfit in Texas. Frowner How do you think a red dot sight would work? I have one mounted on my Steyr, at 60-80 yds. should be able to get by without the magnification.

Larry--I've never used a red-dot sight except on a .22 pistol. I would not be able to use it for head shots at 80 yds I don't think.

That hog light you bought is nice, but mine are 1/4 the price as I recall.

I just received my hog light system it's cool, but next time I'll go to Walmart.

I'm not planning to make head shots often, so the red dot might be good enough. Heck I don't need anymore hog meat and I can't seem to give it all away.

Question though, my son-in-law, owns the property I'm hunting and he seems to question whether or not we will be doing more harm than good, putting up a feeder and light system. He's afraid we will attract more hogs than we can kill, and I know that is true. I'm just hoping that we can kill enough to do good overall.

Put up a trap near the feeder so some corn gets slung into the trap--and maybe you can trap them and shoot them as well.

And, shoot only sows--

Hey Larry. I've always wondered the same thing myself. I guess there are a lot of variables at odds here, but I wonder what the general concensus is about putting up new feeders SPECIFICALLY for hogs. Now, if you already have feeders up for deer and/or turkey, then I think it's a whole differenty ball game.

Anybody else have thoughts on this?
