Last thursday night I have done something wrong, but once you released me after pigs I am like a dog, I stop using my common sense and just go nuts Roll Eyes

This is the story..

I was driving my brand new 4x4 truck in an already harvested corn field, you know how they look...just smooth as a billar table Wink

I was driving slowly and with the other hand handling the spotlight while my hunting buddy was with his rifle ready at my side.

The night was very dark and bloody cold so we decided just to drive around and use the spotlight instead of walking.

So far everything was ok.

The thing started when i saw a nice pig eating corn more or less 100 yards to my left. I whispered to my buddy to get down from the truck and shoot it quickly.

He got down in what seems an eternity !!!
The pig started running away and my pal missed two running shots.

In that moment I started to hear voices inside me.. Big Grin

I shout to my buddy to climb quickly and I started chasing the pig like crazy at full speed !!!

I put my truck side by side with him and my buddy shoot it one more time without success.

There was no chance to stop as the pig was at full speed and it was increadible the distance he can put between he and us in just seconds, and at night all running shots are difficult.

he was heading to some thick cover at the end of the corn field, just 30 yards separate him from the bush and I decided that drastic situations needs drastic solutions...so I just aim my 4x4 right at him...

The last thing I saw was his big ears infront of the truck, then for a milisecond, NOTHING !! I thought that I have missed him, but how ??

The yes, the truck jump a little bit and I inmediately know I have hit him Roll Eyes

I turned round imagining the pig kicking in the floor, BIG was my surprised when i saw him stand up and going away once more !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not running but troting away, in that moment my buddy shoot him again and hit him in the balls (poor animal), he went through a cattle fence and when he was finally getting away from us a last shot from my friend hit him in the neck putting end to all that mess !!

After a while, when the adrenalin went down, I realized that I could have broken the truck or even have a serious accident, and the WORST of all, that such an animal doesn't deserve to be killed that way.... Frowner

Sorry, I know I have done nothing to be proud of, but you know, put a pig running away from me and I go blind...

This is another pig I shot 20 days before exactly 100 yards away from the one of the story !!

Lorenzo, in the heat of the moment all kinds of things can happen! Most importantly, no one was hurt and the animal was dispatched and that is the end of the story!! Thanks for sharing this story with us! Have a barbeque in honor of the animal!

I can't point any fingers, if you read my post Krag/Chevy vs hogs, you will see they were pretty simular. Hunting can not always be scripted, sometimes things just happen. Perhaps the way that pig was killed was a bit messie, and not the way you had planned but that happens. I can attest that shooting from a moving vehicle in a pasture or cornfield is difficult, but the damage that hogs do, requires actions which some might think as unsportsmen's like. You wouldn't hunt deer like that normally, but deer are game animals, they can be pest in some cases, but are generally not considered pest by law and are afforded game status by the hunting public. Hunting pigs is fun, challenging, but in many areas very necessary to control a very destructive pest. I know there was no desire on your part to intentionally cause excessive pain to this animal, so lighten up. Smiler If I had the oppertunity I'd hunt with you, no problem.

Thanks thumb

Indeed pigs in Uruguay are considered pest by the authorities because every year they do a lot of damage to crops and to sheep stocks.
Hunting them is allowed year round.

Those Chevy's must have something against pigs !! mine is also a Chevy !! a LUV D-Max model, an Isuzu that here in South America are comercialized as Chevrolet. I think GM bought Isuzu..or was the other way round bewildered

This was like it looks my old Chevy last march Wink

Thanks again.

Yeah you may be right, perhaps there is an anti-hog chip in the computers of Chevrolets. On second thought, my son-in-law's truck may predate computers, your's looks too nice to be an anti-hog killing device. Nice set of horns, wouldn't mind seeing that in the back of my truck.

I took one with a Chevy K2500, but it was his fault. He was running beside the road in the dark and decided to swerve in front of me. Roll Eyes

I'll bet that there are a good many of us with similar stories. Mine was a very nice eight point whitetail and a Nissan p/u. Great story Lorenzo. I would have loved to have been there.
