Does anybody have the lowdown on the hog hunting in Wisconsin? I exchanged e-mails with a DNR rep. several months ago who merely told me that I should go to Jackson(?) county and talk to a few landowners who could probably point me in the right direction...yada yada yada...
Well it's a 4-5 Hr drive and at least knowing WHO to talk to locally would be a BIG help.
Thanx in advance for whatever help y'all might give a "waqnnabe" hog hunter

Wanted,
I don't know if this is much help, but last weekend my wife & I were driving between Fenimore & Prairie du Chien and we came up on a couple of pick up trucks of hunters that were in blaze orange with rifles and coon hounds. I told my wife the only thing I can figure they were hunting was hogs?? I have heard of hogs being taken & seen in that area of SW WI

I would love to go to the land of cheese (only twenty miles away) and shoot hogs. dancing After some quick searching I found this website, with a map of wisconsin feral hogs sighting, and killings.

Thanx guuys.
That's the DNR website pretty much as I remember it, but maybe by this time the guys listed as contacts will have more specific info to share with me. If I learn anything useful I'll try to remember to post the info here for others to see/use

Im thinking you should call the agricultural extension office in the counties you are interested in hunting. They would know whos farm the hogs have been seen or taken on.
I would think you would have better luck on your side of the state rather than the western side, because I think michigan has a few .
When searching,I came up with a lot of hits for jackson county michigan, rather than wisconsin

Wanted Man, my suggestion would be to take a day off and head over there. A stop at a feed mill or two should get you a couple names of farmers with hogs on their properties.

Interestingly enough, it's not just the southwest corner of the state that has wild hogs.

In the fall of 2008, one Friday evening a friend called me up and asked if I wanted to help him track a hog in the morning? I had just read the local newspaper and the DNR game biologist stated emphatically that there were no wild hogs in Vilas or Oneida county. He had been bowhunting in Oneida county where I live and while scouting out some new treestand locations, spotted a hog. Thinking at first it was a bear, he held still until his brain realized he was looking at pork on the hoof!

He managed to get an arrow into it, but the shot wasn't that great. With darkness falling, he left the track and came back with reinforcements on Saturday morning.

To make a long story short, we did find the young boar, still alive and moving. We caught up to it and it was finished with a .44 mag. I estimated the weight of the boar at 120 pounds. The disturbing thing is we saw sign of many more hogs.

They are in numerous areas of the state, and I for one would rather we didn't have them.

But the southwest corner of the state has the largest concentration, so check with some feedmills.

Hog hunting could get very exciting in the thick woods of Bayfield Co. where I've hunted deer.
