Finally out-waited this guy--he showed up at 11:00 last night and I turned his lights out. It was too late to mess around with weighing him, but my guestimate is 220 or so. Biggest teeth of any I've shot on this place. Rancher is Happy!

Well done! And those are some really nice cutters, too.

Haven't seen hogs here but I did take coyote #8 since this past Fall yesterday morning. I happened to look outside, saw deer all gazing in one direction and on alert. The coyote didn't accept my gift of a 125 grain Accubond from the .300 Savage all that well. Smiler

Was a bit of a dramatic impact, too. Everything was saturated from a heavy dew, the coyote included. Before the soft recoil changed my sight picture, I got to see a dramatic "splash" of water coming off the coyote's shoulder when the bullet made impact.

Gonna head back out to the ranch and wire the head to a tree so I can recover those teeth--

Good idea! Those are nice. It's getting pretty warm now, so it shouldn't take long for mother nature's little creatures to clean it up for you.

Good shooting, always good to see dead hogs and chicken thieves.

dustoffer-

Did you get to do any hunting when you went back out to secure the skull?

I had hoped to check outside a few times last night but was another double-migraine day, and I didn't even venture outside. Today the wind is a little wicked but at least from a good direction, and it's cool and overcast...so maybe they'll be moving. Smiler

Yep...this one had that strong smell that resembles singed chicken feathers. Definitely not a pleasant odor!

Bobby--just wired the skull/jaw to a tree as it was mid-day and the wind is howling. I pulled the camera card to check but with about 2 feeds worth of corn on the ground, the hogs haven't been in since I shot this boar. I'll go to my other spot this week and give 'em a short break here.

Picked up the jaw and skull today---still had a lot of hide on it and a few maggots, but it is in a bucket with Dawn soap soaking.

Checked the camera too---little to no activity since I killed this boar. Does that mean I'm winning? I doubt it.

The other place where I've trapped so many this year is active, with hogs at the feeder between 8-10PM 11 of the last 13 nights, so guess where I'm going tonight?

Report to follow---

Not a good outcome---had to run the turkeys off, but about 10 minutes after the feeder spun, they showed. I got drawn and anchored but the two big ones got behind a mesquite branch. If I had tried to let down I would have spooked them all, so I picked out a medium sized one standing broadside and let 'er rip. Good crunching thump and away they went, the red lighted nock bobbing. Arrow fell to the ground about 5 yds from the feeder and the hogs scattered into the dusky dark. Reloaded and waited a bit, climbed down and found the back 2/3rds of my arrow well bloodied, but not a pass-thru. About 5 minutes into my search for the blood trail, the flashlight died-- Mad I walked back to the truck and drove to the stand area, got out with my big light and started the search, primarily along the direction they left in--along their usual departure trail. Nothing. 90 minutes later I found a single speck about 15' from the arrow---but I had walked all the trails, checked all the trees and cactus patches for blood, and found nothing. So tomorrow I'll be out looking for buzzards--

Went back out to do a buzzard check--nada. Took another look in sunlight for more blood---found two tiny spots on one feeder leg---and found the front part of the arrow embedded in the loose dirt under the feeder. Those dang pigs had covered it with loose dirt in their scramble to leave and I found it only because the turkeys had been scratching around under the feeder. Drove the west fenceline checking trail-fence intersections for blood--nada. Got me puzzled for sure, but I'm thinking a high shoulder shot above the spine--
