Folks, I can hardly remember the last hog I shot--when deer season opened, my local spot becomes off-limits because the cattle man deer hunts, and my hog spot becomes downright abandoned due to all the deer feeders on the surrounding properties. However, the best part is that I have 3 deer down, all with my bow, and the season ends in 48 hours. So, I'm planning to put up my feeder lights, re-start the feeder in the big round trap, re-build the pen around the feeder, and get after them!!!! Stories and pictures to follow!

One step closer--

The feeder in the big pen trap is up and running:

And, here's a view down my shooting lane to the death zone--

Bring on the swine!!!

I am like you, enjoy deer hunting but ready for the pigs to be a little more steady at the feeders. When the neighbor's feeder stop the shooting starts. The pigs have already been hitting on place very regular but the wind has been wrong when I can go. It will change!

Live Oak--exactly my experience--now just a matter of patience--but hurry! I'll go check the game cameras tomorrow just in case, plus I set the box trap that is about 250 yds away. The pecan bottoms have been vacuumed--very, very few pecans left on the ground, and the mounds of culled pecans left from the pickers that used to be 2' tall are down to about a foot-

Pulled the camera cards after 2 nights, and pigs there both nights--1st night they arrived around 11, last night at 9. So, Sunday night I'll be in the stand with the 12-gauge waiting on them.

What buckshot load are you shooting? What is a good effective range?

Palidun--I shoot 3" mag #4 buck in my 12 ga---it has 41 .24 cal pellets in it. I am shooting over a feeder from 25 yds but would feel comfortable out to 30, but that's about it. In my 20-ga I shoot 3" mag #3 buck, but I don't know pellet size or count in the load, but 2 3/4" has 20 pellets.

Here is my "first medicine" of the new year--he was in the trap this morning but he was stinky and it was wet, cold, muddy and windy so he got dragged off to the buzzard buffet.

Getting better---these two young boars in the trap yesterday, and now are resident in the freezer awaiting sausage-making time.

Also got good news/results from my orthopedic visit--my shoulder is just a loose joint from 50 yrs of baseball and 30 yrs of Army pushups, etc. Got a shot of steroids and 36 hours later it is good to go. Doc said not to worry about shooting my bow too. archer

Great news on both fronts. I had shoulder surgery this past year and both my orthopedic surgeon and chiropractor both recommended Ligaplex from Standard Process. It is more natural without so many chemicals in it, which was important to me, may not be to you. It worked very well for me. It helped tighten things up nicely. The cortizone shots were not good for me. They caused other joint issues and pain.

Ligaplex

Thanks for the tip Larry--I am already taking glucosamine for my arthritic knee and have had good results with that one.
