Well, got a call from the cow man/deer hunter to get after them so put the camera out 2 wks ago. First week-2 boars, 160-180 each. This week, well, let's just say it's a target rich environment and if the sows have their typical litters, I"ll be busy. That last sow may be giving birth right now from her appearance. Reports to follow:

Definitely a target rich environment. Glad to see that the hogs have not recycled you yet. HNY to you as well

Best

Thanks Geedubya--

Put the pen around the feeder yesterday to keep the bovines away, and set up my night lights too. Went back this AM to check the pen trap (empty, sprung) and add a post to the pen. All the corn was on the ground from last night's feed inside the pen. They had cleaned it up outside the wire. But, they'll be in the pen in a couple of nights. They had root-plowed all around the creep feeder, up to the side of the box trap and even about a foot inside, but didn't go in to trip it. Think I may have to move it to some more even ground as they are a bit skeptical of walking in on the 4x4 mesh bottom I think.

Had a sit last week and pigs were no-shows but the camera said they were waiting in the brush and came out at 10:30, with me driving away at 9:30. Mad

Have had the trap set with plain corn, soured corn, and combo of both, with no takers. PUlled the cam card today and this is what I found--and, the shoats are getting closer to the trap in the background with the little feeder on top.

As the moon is brightening up, will go sit Monday night at another spot where they have been regular and doing mega-damage.

What's the old saying, Lord give me patience and give it to me now.

Patience my man, won't be long now.

Forgot to post up the first of the New Year--caught this sow in a trap. Weighed a lot more than she looks in the pic--160 lbs.

OK--how much patience is enough? 3 hrs last night and 4 tonight--zero pigs!

Taking tomorrow night off, then back at it Wednesday.

Out to the east place tonight--half-plus moon, perfect wind from 11 o'clock and the pigs showed early. I hadn't even had my 2nd cup of coffee when I saw a moving black mass enter the power line right-of-way. Took them about 3-4 minutes to work their way into the feeder pen and the lights. I was looking for a 100-120 lb sow for a buddy for sausage, and was fooled by the size of shoats, which made me think this he was a she and smaller. I could tell I had a case of mistaken identity when I got to within 50' of the pen and picked up the scent, er stink.

185 lbs, #2 for the year. Rancher is happy.

Nice teeth:

He had a real blowout--look at the blood scatter-

Nice cutters and good bullet performance. What caliber and load?

It's my go-to load, a .22-250 shooting 55-gr Ballistic Tips at about 3500 fps as I recall. It knocks 'em down and dead, but I take only brain shots.

This one took the entry mid-way between the left ear and eye, and it exited through the right ear. I would imagine it did a bit of scrambling of the brain in transit. Strangely enough, that blood spatter is on the entry side--not the exit side. Boar is laying as he was standing when he caught the bullet.

Here's this morning's take--biggest was a PG sow w/6 buns in the oven. Smallest was a "PPP" or perfect pit piggie at 60 lbs.

And, when I pulled the cam card on another ranch, the sounder I had whittled down to 7 has increased to 15--and no new piglets. They are ganging up on me!

Keep it up Dustoffer. I have no track soup even, in this corner of the state of Misery. Not even an escapee at this time. Have to live vicariously. Packy

Packy--I'm trying to do control on 4 ranches right now, and one has had no pigs since December 13, one has had pigs one night in the past 2 years, and one has been without pigs for the past 2 weeks or so. However, the one pictured with all the pigs is still going strong for me. I'd go tomorrow night but got a church meeting, then truck will be in the shop Monday evening, so looks like Tuesday before I get out again. If the winds are right I might take my bow--
