Thus far, I have used the Hornady 60 gr spire point over Varget or BLC2, with pretty good results.

Anybody used the Sierra 69gr BTHP? I get excellent accuracy with it, and am told that it will perform well ... but it is sort of a talisman, as ever since I started using this bullet, I have seen nary a hog. (Same goes for my AR-10 ... )

If I was going to use the 223 for hogs I would use the Trophy Bonded Bearclaw, Nosler Partition, or Barnes X.

Hornaday told ne that their 60gr HP is a tougher bullet than their 60gr Soft.

I would not use the 69 Sierra Match. It is not designed for animals.

My favorite all time .223 bullet for hogs or deer is the speer 70gr RN @ 2700fps. This gives great penetration and ecpansion. Will work in 1-12 rifling. 748 ball powder seems to be the best powder for me.

I like the 64 Powerpoint on top of TAC in my AR.

Here is a couple of bullet testers.

The 70gr Speer and 64gr Powerpoint are good bullets. They were designed for deer in the 223.

I have shot coyote with the 69gr SMK and they worked well on them. However a coyote and ferral hog are nothing alike. I would use something like a bonded or barnes bullet for ferral hog.

I think we all over credit the ferals with a level of toughness that just isn't there. I've killed more with 55 gr ballistic tips at 3550fps out of my .22-250 than any other cartridge. Granted, they are all head shots at 100 yds and under, and even though the BT is a varmint bullet, it still gives good penetration. This pic shows my last shot--80 yds, 1 bang, 2 flops. Bullet entered just behind the ear of the front hog, exited, and hit below the eye of the second one. They are smallish, weighing about 65-75 lbs each. Now, I don't advocate shooting a big boar or sow in the shoulder with it, but it knocks their lights out when you hit them in the CNS, and is a .6" 100 yd grouping bullet in my M70.
