There is not really a story, but I killed a really nice boar a couple of hours ago. I went out to hunt a group of pigs I have been seeing on my game camera and walked in on this 250 pound boar that I have never seen before. I shot him in the neck at about 100 yards with my Encore 9.3x74r with a handloaded 270 gr Speer bullet, and he was dead before he hit the ground. This isn't the biggest boar I have killed, but he did have the best set of tusks.

Great going, Jeff! That's a very nice boar -- not to mention a nice hunting rig, too. I just can't seem to gravitate away from those TC single shots, no matter what the game may be. And I always enjoy seeing others putting them into action as well. I just finished taking a peak down a sendero with hopes a hog or 20 may be present. Three nights ago, a sounder of well over 30 hogs ripped through the trough of protein and figured out that hitting the legs of the feeder would dispense more grain. 75+ pounds of protein pellets and perhaps 100 pounds of corn were devoured in short order. Caught the culprits red-handed on game cam. But they have not been back since then. The night is still young, however...and my Contender carbine in 7mm Bullberry patiently waits to be pressed into action Bobby Μολὼν λαβέ The most important thing in life is not what we do but how and why we do it. - Nana Mouskouri

Bobby, I have the same problem "patterning" hogs, but like last night, sometimes one just gets lucky. I don't know if you can see in the pictures, but I had planned on sitting a while and had my Laser Genetics green flashlight mounted beside my scope on the Weaver rail. I was skeptical when I bought it, but it has worked great for me.

Great pig Jeff! I may vaguely remember some details on your 9.3, but can you repeat please? Barrel length, maker, etc? And who makes that composite stock? Sweet rig ! As far as patterning hogs, I was certain that yesterday's trip was going to be a successful venture afield...it was, for the guy sitting on the other milo field. He saw 30, shot 4. I saw 0. Oh well. Gonna try it again with the bow this weekend on another property.

Nice going Jeff. If you have a spare minute, tell me about your spare cartridge holder on the forearm. Where did you get that? Does it alter the point of impact by pulling the barrel and forearm together? Thanks! _____________________ A successful man is one who earns more money than his wife can spend.

The barrel came from Match Grade Machine and is 20 inches, full bull with 8 flutes on a Shilen blank with the hangar bar system chambered in 9.3x74r. I bought the stock around 2000 or 2001 from Virgin Valley Custom Guns (now defunct), and I believe it was made for them by Lone Wolf. I paid dearly for the stock then, and I wish I could find another one. I have search and called, but no one seems to being making a similar aftermarket composite/kevlar for an Encore. The barrel is a tack driver, and on my last range visit, I shot gongs out to 500 yards with it. When I hit the gong at 500 on the first shot, I thought it was a fluke, but after the third and fourth hit, it appeared to be repeatable. NE 450 No2 can verify my shooting at 500 too! I have found that luck plays a bigger part in hog hunting than any other type of hunting that I do. Good luck on your next trip!
