Not much to tell here. I was hoping for a different scenario and shot presentation to give the bullet a better test, but sometimes, the hogs just refuse to comply. Big Grin

Anyway, earlier this evening, I picked up movement and noticed a couple of hogs cutting across the property at a rather brisk pace. I yelled, hoping to stop them, but it had no effect. I got the scope on the larger of the two, and while she was quartering sharply away and about to make it into cover, I unleashed a Speer 150 grain Gold Dot Blackout bullet from the 24" DVH 30-30.

The bullet impacted the sow near where the neck and shoulder meet, wreaked havoc with a portion of lower neck vertebrae and exited between the eyes. The wound channel indicates the bullet began to expand violently almost immediately as it left a gaping hole through the meaty portion of the neck.Suffice to say, it was an instant kill.

I am hoping for a few shoulder-to-shoulder presentations in the future to better assess the Speer.

Hey Bobby:

IT WORKED!

Can't ask for anything more than that.
Glad you got another one.

Cup and core bullets like Speer and Hornaday have been tested and retested time and time again, They just work, or that's been my experience. At one time Sierras were soft, but Ive seen some fine results over the last few years..

Yes, they have. These are not cup and core, however. This is a bonded bullet designed to expand when started at around 1950 fps in the .300 BO. It is wicked in the 30-30 at 500 fps faster. It expands violently early on but retains the majority of its weight, so penetration is excellent as well.
