Pile-o-pigs
Shot 4 hoglets Thursday morning. The ol' 376 Steyr kinda thumps them, Ya'.

First three were DRT.

This one was moving a pretty good clip and I caught her a bit back. The impact rolled her but she got up and took off like a shot. Good blood for first twenty yards or so then nothing. Luckily it had been raining for three days and the ground was soft, so I was able to track. Seems the guts popped out and sealed the exit wound, so no blood.

all in all, a pretty good pile-o-pigs.

First one looks a bit toothy huh?
Seems they do spring a leak at times.
Don't agree with you on how "pretty" it is though, ha!

Way back in the early '60's, BIL and I were hunting muleys in the heavy oak brush. A forkhorn jumped up and Bobby blew the belly skin open, lil buck came running around a cedar bush and nearly ran into me. When he stopped less than 10feet away, most of his guts swung out beside him. THen took off down a real steep hill with both of us shooting. I hit him the ass end and killed him. Never seen anything like that before. Had to of hurt like hell. Glad we got him quickly.

Thanks for sharing the success. Seems like the bad spell has been broken. Good for you.

George

Well since you asked..........

It seems at my advanced age I don't seem to get as many boners as I used to.........

However I did get one last week before I took off to perforate some porkers. Just in from Gene Ingram, 5" Kingfisher, A2 Steel, Desert Ironwood scales.

But Skinners............

Just in from Rick Menefee. The one on the left is scaled with stabilized pine cone in acrylic, AEBL steel. When he sent me a pix, I had to have it.

The one on the right is scaled in Micarta and is A2 Steel. I have a matching Badley in a clip point.

Next is one by Gary Music, MusicMade knives. Buffalo horn scales, Loveless pins, 52100 Steel.

A clay Alaskan Skinner by TK Steingass. Ramshorn and S30 V steel. He told me this is the first Clay skinner he has done.

Saved the best for last. This one is by Todd Theyn, who posts here as just-a-hunter. Its a little different than what I usually heft. I asked him to make me a knife, and told him to surprise me. Wow did he. He says this knife is made from L6 Steel that he weathered for six years. The scales are stabilized spalted Pecan. Made a custom left hand cross draw sheath to go with it. It is special.

Best,

GWB

Beautiful wood, if n when I make it back to Texas I'll have to pick up some pecan and mesquite pieces to tinker with.

Quite a collection of blades you have here.
Several are too pretty to get bloody!

A couple of Menefees make short work of trimming for the table

then into the brine for 24 hours.

Apply rub and put in the smoker. Should be ready Friday afternoon.

Nice batch of porkers, how does the brining effect the end product in the smoker? I have been thinking about trying that myself.
