Here is a useful picture of a hogs anatomy, notice how low the hogs heart sits in the chest cavity, contrary to popular belief of it being center in chest Here is another informative link from Texasboars.com Hog Anatomy "Let me start off with two words: Made in America"

That's the diagram I was referring to in another post I believe yesterday. It's a good diagram. Thanks for finding it and posting it, Justin! "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." Interesting thing about this diagram is that it also shows how much spine is available. Thus a hard hitting round will can create enough power/pressure upon impact and passing to have a great chance of breaking the spine and puting the animal down without a direct hit to it or the heart. One in particlar shot I made on a sow completly missed the heart and would have other wise looked like a belly shot. Long story short....her back legs droped and then fell on her snout as if the spine had broke and the shock of the round caused a heart attack. All the internals were in one piece but looking a little swolen. Not sure what to make of it other than the heavy load created pressure inside. Federal 7mm rem mag Trophy Bonded Bear Claw 160GR. Kyler wasnt the happiest after he had just explained the rules of engagement and asked we pay special attention to not shoot the lactating sows. Thats a whole other story...Its funny how 5 seconds of action turn into hours of story so I wont go into it. I would rather Boar Hunt for my Bacon!

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-24838923241803...ype=search&plindex=0 This is one of my videos my boss and I have done this year. The first hog I hit dead center in the heart (notice how low I hit her), and the second hog was a spine hit which made the pigs back legs drop out and do a spin on the ground. I typically kill bunches of hogs every year. I shoot them about 2" behind the ear on a line between their ear and shoulder. Takes out their vertebrae. They are DRT. If not they just paddle with their hind legs. GWB

That's also true of most North American big game. On a whitetail, for instance, if you shoot the front leg about 2 to 3 inches above the body line, you'll be centerpunching the heart. Same on an elk but make it 3 to 5 inches. It is an easy and deadly shot. That said, if it is a trophy whitetail, I try to break both shoulders, most of the time. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members.
