After a few months of searching, I finally found a deer lease that sounded like a good deal. Went out and looked at the property and went ahead and jumped on it. 11,000 acres with hogs, coons, whitetail, etc. There is a minimal amount of hogs but there is a ton of Whitetail Deer. Also has stockponds that are full of catfish. Big Grin

Then I found out that one of the Ranchers that I left a note on his gate to see if I could hunt his property for pigs, called and pretty much begged for help in getting the hogs off of his land. He says he sees about 40-50/an evening by the water holes Eeker

Gonna be a good year as long as gas prices stay below $5/gal and corn stays under $10/bag

Don't count on it. With the floods in Iowa, corn is projected to be $9/bushel, which will mean $10++/bag.

Other than that, sounds like a good lease! Fishin', hog huntin', lots of deer, big property, sounds nice. Congrats on finding it. Good leases are hard to come by.

Corn is already $8.79/bag in some places around San Antonio, and with gas at $3.90/gal I'm not so sad I left my 10-feeder lease 122 miles one-way down the road. Especially since it hasn't seen any appreciable rain since last year. Can you say skinny horns and skinny deer?

Here is the 11,000 acre deer lease.

My feeder (110 gallons and tall! should last a few months.)

And here I am standing at my stand location, (175 yards out). There is a large draw inbetween where the picture is taken and the feeder, althoguh you cannot see it in this photo. Also, there is a watering hole approx. 550yards to the left down the draw so I am getting the deer coming from the water as well. This picture was taken with the feeder being in the spot for only 6 days. 14 deer came in on this particular evening. How many do you see in this picture?

I have a new infrared & digital game camera next to the feeder as we speak, its been there since saturday so tomorrow or the next day when I swap the memory cards I will put more pictures in this thread so we can see what is coming in!

....and here is a bass from the stockpond!

Thanks Wendell!

Right now the local feed store has the corn at about $8.15/50lb. and Walmart has a 40lb bag for $6.30 or so.

I think the thing I like most about the property is that there are such few hunters on the place with all of this land. and most of the people on the lease are from the DFW area, making my best friend and I the closest to the lease with about a 1.5hr drive. The Landowner told us the 7 or 8 guys from DFW only come down opening morning and maybe one other time during the season...and they only turn on their feeders in October.

I plan on feeding year round.

Where are you hunting (not directions to the gate, just generally)? Unless it is more then 7 hours from Dallas I can't imagine only going down twice. Of course with gas where it is things change.

Good luck with the piggies too.

Seems like I am getting around 1,000 pictures per week. I can't wait till bow season! (and later, rifle season!)

I am going to swap the cards again next friday or saturday and then hopefully I get more pictures of that 10+ point buck.

Probably going to be in the bed of my truck this evening. Heading out in a few hours to watch the midday heat bring the boars to the water holes. Big Grin

Thanks for the info. I guess I have not been that way in more than 20 years. Last few times that direction I went north from Abilene -- the country does look similar.
Enjoy the hunting -- that is a nice-sized place in these days when so many are crowded in together.

Yessir, it is getting very crowded out this way and everywhere else. 10 people on 11,000 acres is a gift from the heavens
