I posted this in the handgun hunting forum but though y'all might find it at least a little interesting...... Big Grin

Was on a business trip in Miami, but stopped in Palm Beach to visit friends on the way back and we went on a quicky hog hunt last Monday. Sadly enough, I didn't have my camera with me and the only photo I have from that day isn't of the sow I shot. We hunted a friend's lease in Southern Florida in the middle of the day in the blazing heat. We drove around the property on his swamp buggy (I do have a picture of the buggy), hoping to bump a hog from its bedding area as we knew they wouldn't be moving in that heat. We saw a whole bunch of fresh hog sign from the morning. I was using my brother-in-law's 6-inch Model 629 loaded with Double Tap 320 grain WFNs. This load went right under 1300 fps from my 6.5-inch M 29 and I am very happy with its accuracy. Anyhow, I checked zero before we went out and found all to be well. We drove the property and at one point, the folks in the back of the buggy told us that they saw a hog in the bushes we just passed. By the time we got the buggy backed up, the hog had moved, but I caught a glimpse and despite the thick brush, I shot what I thought was the shoulder. After jumping out, I ran into a whole slew of footballs (shoats Big Grin) running out of the bushes. It took a little tracking but I found the 80-lb or so sow in the thick stuff....... Deader than a door-nail.......

Oh, and the bullet hit a bit high on the shoulder breaking the onside shoulder, and exiting.

Here's my one photo -- the swamp buggy we used on Monday's hunt.

Hey Marco, congrats on another pig, how many does that make for you this year? I making a hunt in the morning, first time in a long time. I've been busy setting up my nest in Ar. and being a new grandpa and stuff like that. I'll give you a report, good, bad, or ugly.

regards,

Three good hogs is nothing to sneeze at. Specially if it's done your way, handgun and all. We got 4 this morning, three little pigs and one 80lb small boar. Why do the dogs always catch the small ones when we pile them up?

Could have had a nice hog, but my friend Dennis didn't want me to shoot as his dog is particularly gunshy so that one got away until next time.

Anyhow friend take care and keep your powder dry.

Should have had some good pic from the 80lb boar encounter but I left my camera on the 4 wheeler in the excitement.

They were duking it out in a good size creek and it took a while for the calvary (Stuart & Dennis) to get there and finish the job. I had to throw them my knife and almost hit Big John (bay dog) in the process, that might not have been good.

But I'll post them when I get them. Wink

Oh yeah, one of them lil ones is going on the pit this morning, ought to be good.
