Hogs have been relatively rare at my Belmont place, but last two times I checked the camera there has been a boar visiting in the morning between 6 and 8:30. Really consistent too--21 mornings out of last 23. So, yesterday I filled the feeder and made sure the shooting lane was clear as I would be sitting in my ground hide and not in one of the ladder stands or in the truck. My plan was to park about a quarter-mile away, walk up the east fence until I could cut directly crosswind to my hide. All worked fine except the resident herd of cows was laid up in the pasture about 50 yds from my seat. They didn't spook, and in fact were nosey--coming close to check me out once I was situated. I was in the seat at 6:00 with sunrise at 6:44 so I was plenty early. Then at 6:06, as I was scanning the feeder thru the binocs, the boar walks right across the shooting lane between me and the feeder--but didn't stop. Oh well, he'll be back if he sticks to his pattern. Sure enough, at 6:21 he is in the pen but walks across it and behind a tree. Rifle on bipod, safety off, and at 6:23 he steps out and dies. My guess is 125 lbs or so, and rank. Dragged off to the buzzard buffet, split open, and left as the main course. And, here's what I spotted across the east fence driving out--still got work to do An old pilot, not a bold pilot, aka "the pig murdering fool"

Well done! It's definitely nice to have a plan work out like that. Since the sow I took Sunday night (or Monday...my memory is pitiful), there have been no signs of hogs around. There were several with this sow, and I am hoping they lose their inhibitions soon and come back. Unfortunately, the fence is the property line and the land is leased so the owner says I can't help him with hog control. An old pilot, not a bold pilot, aka "the pig murdering fool"

Just keep a feeder running, they will be back. Even the rocks don't last forever.

Sounds like you need to look up whoever has the lease then. Show 'em this picture. Might convince them to let you shoot a few. They sure need to be thinned out. At least half those will be sows, some are ready to drop a new batch too I'd bet. Have fun!! George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!" LM: NRA, DAV, George L.
