Been seeing a bunch of sows and piglets last week on the game cam. Gave way to a lone boar this week. As the title says got to sit Friday night. About 8:00 the deer left, fifteen minutes later I began to wonder what happened. Usually deer leaving and not returning is a good pig indicator. Without the binos I noticed a little light where is was not earlier. This guy was in the pen! He was a little jumpy and dashed off three times. Third time he was not getting a fourth! He gave me a good shot in a little better light and the Ruger got another.

Which brings up a point. Black pigs, which most of them are do not reflect much light. I have three setups, 100 yrds red LEDS, 150yrd green LEDS and 230 yrds white LEDs. All are ten watt 12 volt lights. I had the green and red swapped at first and found it is almot impossible to see black pigs at 150 yrds under red LEDs! Does it make a difference to the pigs, no, if the lights stay on all the time. My feeders spin an hour after dark for pigs so the lights are aready on. During deer season I did not turn the lights off. Corn was on the ground first then the lights came on. Red, green or white the deer jumped and ran. They did not go far nor stay gone long but they ran. I do not watch pigs any longer than it takes to get a good shot. I do not looking for them in the dark in tall grass! I like shooting under lights because that way I can take different rifle each time! The Ruger just happen to get two in a row!

First, congrats on a fine hoglet.

Seems like most of the porkers I've been perforating lately have been after dark-thirty and day-break.

I recently upgraded my scope mounted light to the Wicked 402, with green bulb.

Supposed to work to 400 yds.

I've used it to 175 yds., with no problem identifying either hogs or cross-hairs.

Got mine from:

I particularly like the ability so zoom the light in or out. which allow to adjust brightness for either close up or far away.

Flat out works for me.

Best,

GWB
