Red: Either rifle will do the trick just fine. Have used Hornady spire points in 30-06 w/o any problems and the 165 gr. is just about optimum weight IMHO for this cartridge; they shoot flat and perform well on game. Have dispatched a lot of hogs w/the 3006 and 165's, most DRT, a few ran 20-30 yards. Interstingly enough, used a 375 H&H this past year (getting used to the rifle) to take two hogs; both managed to run 25 yds. or so. First was a low hit in chest, took out his heart. Blood trail a blind man could follow for 20 yds. Second was double lung shot, few drops of blood where he was standing when hit, almost no blood trail but dead pig about 25 yds in the brush. Just about same results as w/the '06. Hogs are great fun and good eatin' to boot; enjoy! Regards, hm | ||
