Rained all day until late afternoon. Too windy to put the dogs out, so I decided to make a little patrol without the dogs. Hunted the pasture across the road from the house. Took my time, trying to get around the cattle without spooking them. After about 30 minutes I saw something that caught my eye. Was it hog, a log, or a calf. Decided to sneak a bit closer for a look see. Got fairly close but still wasn't positive it wasn't a calf. I knew it wasn't but I wanted to see its head. While waiting for positive ID a little spotted sow walked up about 75 yds. away. Don't see too many so marked, it looked like an eater and the first had moved and was almost impossible to see because of tall grass. Shot the little sow through both shoulders it went down at the shot. The rest at least three ran off without presenting a shot. The firearm is a Winchester model 88 carbine in 308. | ||
