Got to hunt Friday evening and was watching a couple of young first year bucks when I saw a black flash out of the corner of my eye. I knew it was a pig and focused on where I thought it might be going. I did not get my rifle up like an idiot and I saw him diagonal across an opening up a hill headed away from my stand. Missed opportunity! Saturday morning I went back to the same stand and was rewarded with seeing my first decent buck of this season. A really pretty up and coming 3-1/2 year old 9 point. He had a little spike buck in tow. I was watching the 2 bucks when both of them threw up their tails a skeedattled across the small clearing before stopping and looking back. This time I did not mess around and got my rifle up immediately. Sure enough this dude stuck his snout out of the cedar. I immediately shot him in the neck and he dropped and paddled right there. I'm really starting to like this old 99 in .300 Savage. Great round. Low recoil and plenty of smack down power for perforating porkers and deer. The meat wagon shot | ||
