How many of you hog hunters bother with having a head mounted every now and again of a particularly good tusker? Just wondering. I have only sent to hog's heads to my taxidermist. I tend to hunt eatin' pigs mainly, but sometimes you come across a really good specimen and you just have to take it...... "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." Whit, I have cleaned up only four skulls to date, no tax. work on a hog yet. Using the fire ant, 5gal bucket soak, and clorox clean up method. Three had tusks in the 2 3/4" range ( outside of the lip). If I ever get one in the 3 1/2" size and it looks really good in all other aspects, then it might go to the taxidemist. The idea of $300-350 for a pig mount is a little hard for me to swallow. I just think about the next rifle project I could use that money on. I had one done by a friend when I was in college when he was learning how to do taxidermy work but other than that, I've never had a good one done professionally. Like HK, I've done quite a few skull mounts myself. I'm holding out for that perfect hog before I get it mounted. My father only has one mounted and he got it done about 5 years ago because it was a big hog that killed one of his best dogs, one of the few hogs to ever do that.

I hunt wild boar in Austria a lot. For the larger boars that I've gotten, I've kept the tusks (filled them with wax) and just tanned the hide. 577NitroExpress Double Rifle Shooters Society Francotte .470 Nitro Express If stupidity hurt, a lot of people would be walking around screaming...

Nice mount, Bob! How much did that porker weigh? I too don't like to spend the money that could be better used on yet another firarm....but, sometimes I like to send it to my taxidermist if it's an outstanding hog. I can only dream of taxidermy prices that low. The cheapest taxidermist around me charges $525. I just dropped a hog off at my taxidermist's this morning. He's not a monster, but he's my first and I, frankly, love having tons of animal heads hanging around the house. I love taxidermy, so anything I shoot gets mounted. Consequently, I don't shoot anything unless I can put it on the wall. ____________________________ If you died tomorrow, what would you have done today ... 2018 Zimbabwe - Tuskless w/ Nengasha Safaris 2011 Mozambique - Buffalo w/ Mashambanzou Safaris

I'm planning on doing so once I shoot a really nasty looking boar. I got a little boar this year which I'm having the skull cleaned up by a local guy. I figure I can put the skull on the hood of my dodge ram 4x4 . . . I'm sure that Mrs. Teat Hound will love it! -eric " . . . a gun is better worn and with bloom off---So is a saddle---People too by God." -EH

Hey Whitworth, As far as "trophy" boars go, he was a baby. He came in at 220 lbs. He was the laregest I had taken and was a really nice dark red color. Good Hunting, Bob There is room for all of God's creatures....right next to the mashed potatoes. http://texaspredatorposse.ipbhost.com/

I have hunted pigs much of my life but only mounted a few. Here is the biggest one to date. It will be in the SCI record book next issue. I was told by them it was #19 but that could change by the release date? It's the largest free roaming wild boar from Tennessee listed. Because of this I just had to mount it! I mostly just collect the skulls. This one is mounted with by taking a cast of the original teeth and then saving the real ones for the skull. Here you can see the original skull and teeth(not extended beyond natural amount!) Now I shot one in Alberta Canada, also free range. It was actually bigger then the one in Tennessee and I shot it with my bow. I suppose I will mount it as well! I was shivvering in that stinking tree stand for hours waitingb them out. To take a hog on open land this size with a bow certainly justifies the shoulder mount. I have the cape tanned and ready to go but have not had the time to assemble it yet. I did process the skull and have that too. It's a whopper skull!
