Gosh dang it, i was hoping to top off my birthday with a successful pig hunt, but alas, i made a couple poor dicisions and missed out. I went down the canyon behind my house, which has quite a few piggies, and picked a spot to sit and wait for an evening good shooting. Unfortunately, the foliage is so thick its hard to get a good field of view. Also, I sat on the wrong side of the canyon! I could hear them coming down a trail behind me and on my right, but from my position could see nothing. I hoped when they got to the bottom they would go for the water I was watching over, but they went down the other way and i never saw them. I did find a good place to wait for them next time, and I'll give it a go again this week. Oh well, now it's time for chocolate cake and beer. Curtis

Curtis--I sat in my tripod with bow yesterday AM and my luck was like yours. Only my bad fortunes were my own fault. I dropped my corn near the feeder, but in the dark, I put it where I couldn't shoot if they came in. Of course, 10 minutes after I got settled in there were 5 pigs merrily eating corn and the droopy mesquite limb kept me from shooting. Oh well, there is always next time, and I did enjoy watching the hen turkey with her 4 frying-chicken sized little ones chasing grasshoppers. FAILURE? Any time spent hunting is fun and a sucess, I'd never call not killing something a failure. the chef

Tried again tonight, but had no sight nor sound of one. Took a good spill going down the hill to get near the creek! One second I was standing taking a step, the next second i was on my butt. At least it wasnt on the side where my GP100 was strapped so i didn't end up with a gun barrel in my kidney. Yes calgary, it is better than being in the city for sure. Still, making live pigs dead pigs is better than not! Dustoffer, I aggree about the turkeys. Those little ones are so ugly they are cute! I will see about pics next one I go on. Curtis

This was taken by my crackberry yesterday after I had been sitting for a few minutes. It's a beautiful area to live. IMG]http://i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz147/guncurtis2/canyon.jpg[/IMG] Hope I posted that picture correctly. Curtis

whenever I'm afield, in my pack are a pair of binocs (usually around my neck), a camera, water and a book. I find that some of my best hunts are when I just let everything go, relax and enjoy the beauty of God's creation. I may fail to come back with game/varmints, but I never come back without new experiences. (And a digital image helps keep those fresh) Best GWB
