Went out last night since we had one of our very infrequent north winds that lets me sit in my favorite "hide". Got in my seat at 7:30 after baiting the trap and setting off the feeder twice to "call" 'em and hold 'em when they show up. Great evening, sitting under a clear sky, watching the sun set, listening to the day critters pack it in, and the night critters waking up. About 7:45 a 'coon shows up, but I'm after pigs so he gets a pass. 8:00 feeder spins on schedule and at 9:10 I see shadows at the feeder. Put the rifle on the shooting sticks, and see several small ones--maybe 30--50 lbs, that ideal cooking size. Trying to make up my mind and thinking about waiting for the hogs to align for a double, when the feeder went off again--pigs scatter. That's OK as I know they'll be back in 10 minutes or so--NOT. Sat until 10:30 and they were AWOL. However, about 10:15 I realized I couldn't see the light at the feeder and picked up the rifle to check things out (forgot the binocs). I'm thinking it is a cow as it would take something large to block the light--I thought. It was a huge pig, but all I can see is either front or rear alternating and walking towards me. At about 20 yds it filled the whole scope picture, and then just as quickly it hooked a fast right turn and was gone. Oh well, time to go home anyway.

I'll be back!!

I reviewed my game camera pics from the last month, and I have 4 different sounders visiting this one feeder--total of about 40 different hogs, from 10 lbs to 200 lbs. Lots of fun this summer for sure.

I'm going out tomorrow to put up two new lights as it is too dark to see from my usual spot where I have to sit with a S or SE wind--about 125 yds away.

I also built a trap last week, and have it wired open, with a feeder hanging over it to get 'em used to crowding inside. Maybe next week I'll set the trap if it looks like the hordes are visiting it--and then the fun/work begins.

Sounds like a nice evening, you made me remember why I like to sit in my stands until way past dark. The night creatures always amaze me and on a good evening it's a magic that non hunters will never experience.
