We hunted at Loshbough's hunting range in Crossville Tennessee.

Here are some approximated stats....

The Savage came out on top when it came to the model most hunters used. Nine hunters killed nine hogs using six different bullets.

The Knight Disc Elite .50 was next in number of hunters. Four hunters killed five hogs using three different bullets.

The following guns were one hunter, one hog, one bullet!

Knight Disc Extreme .50
Ultralight Arms .50
T/C Encore .50
SMI/NEF .50

The most used bullet used this year was the 250gr Bonded Shockwave. 3 hunters used it to kill hogs. Next was the 300gr Speer .452, two hunters two hogs followed by the 240gr .429 XTP, one hunter TWO hogs! The rest were all one hog bullets. The 225gr XPB, 275gr XPB, 300gr Original, 350gr X, 250gr Expander, 300gr Bonded Shockwave, 240gr HM Slick-40, 250gr Shockwave, 260gr Dead Center, and the 275gr T-Shock XLR.

Optics were represented by Leupold(4), Zeiss(3), Bushnell(3 or 4 I think) Weaver(1), Simmons(1), Burris(1), Tasco(1)...

Those all look to be really big pigs. Nice going by all!

A question for all you folks: Several of these pigs look like they have a very pronounced ridge of hair running down between the front shoulders, one that is a lot more pronounced than on the ones I have shot here in TX. I have read that that is a characteristic (another being a very long snout...) of "Russian" pigs that were imported back a long time ago. I have also read that there is no such thing as Russian swine, that everything in the states is just plain old European swine that were first brought here by explorers.

Anybody have a definitive answer?

I believe that the term Russian really should read European. What we have in the States is mainly feral. I hunted European boar in Missouri a couple of years ago, but that stock was trucked in from Canada and believe me that it looks nothing like the ferals I hunted in Florida.

While I am certainly no boar expert I can only tell you what the owner/guides were discussing.

While they used to bring in hogs from Cananda in the past, apparently that is now illegal in Tennessee. From what they said if they capture and bring in hogs those hogs must be from Tennessee. (Of course the exception would be if they went through a thorough quarantine process. However, it seemed as if this was cost prohibitive.)

They refered to all of the animals as either Russian's or Feral. Of course they know they interbreed so basically they are just suggesting whether it is genetically more of one than the other. They also said that a large relatively pure breed russian is unlikely to grow over 300lbs. In order for the hogs to grow larger they need to be interbred with feral hogs.

As to what kind of hogs we got...who knows, but I believe they are primarily Russian's...(especially the first three greyish ones pictured above.)

That is a pic of a rangy old boar on our South Tx lease--weighted about 180 and had 3+" tusks.

Guys, I am from Arkansas, and barely remember seeing any razorbacks with that much Old World boar in them.

Iwould like to organize a group for hunting wild boar here we can live in tents in the bush for 3 days and hunt with the dogos and pay only the boars to the farmers .Juan

It is big. It took a few days of walking around before I saw all sides of it. If the pigs want to run from you they certainly can move off faster than you could keep up. In fact we chased the pigs and dogs one day and never even got a clean shot in 2 hours before finally loosing them.

That being said. There were some other groups of hogs that I suspect we more recently stocked, that the dogs were able to bay easily and the shots were quite close.

I for one, took my hog about 100yds out without dogs. This was an unusual case however as these hogs were in a neighbors fields and we able to actually drive them out of thick brush to get a shot.

The reality is...if you are looking for a relaxing weekend where can enjoy a few pieceful nights while hunting pretty hard during the day it is a perfect place. If you are looking for a hardcore wild bore hunt on the other hand, there may be better places. It all depends on what you are looking for.

Juan, My friends would be interested in this for sure. They are all knife hunters (at least they will be by the end of the hunt
