My pig trap (loaded with corn) is alongside a private dirt road inside my property that is rarely used. Problem is that we just don't seem to get any pig traffic, even though there is a well used salt lick 10 yards away and a deer feeder spewing corn about 50 yards away.
I have a trail camera set up nearby and not only do not get pigs, the deer feeder seems to be avoided by both pigs and deer.
Was wondering if anyone has successfully lured pigs by walking along and dropping a trail of corn from their trap then perhaps 150 yards into the deep woods.

Just an observation, nothing more.

I have never had any trouble with pigs finding and using the same feeders as deer, that includes new feeders.

My thoughts are it has something to do with the road. Pigs and deer move around way too much to not stumble over an active feeder.

If there are other feeders on the property that are being actively visited, than there is something about the road that has the animals spooked.

You might try the corn trail, but from my experience deer will start coming into a feeder within 2 or 3 days after it begins operating and depending on the local pig numbers that might take a week to ten days maybe a little longer, sometimes they will be as fast as the deer.

If your property has good numbers of deer/pigs and they are hitting other feeder locations than there is something about the road that is causing the inactivity.

Basically what I call a road is just a wide swath between trees with two paths left by tractor tires and the occasional family car. We use it to go from North end of property to South end. Bush hog it about 4 tiimes per year. Our property isn't visited by anyone other than family, and not more than 1 or 2 days per month.
We set up a corn feeder the beginning of Sept, spewing out at 6 am and at 5 pm, 20 seconds per, from 250 Lb placed in the elevated barrel.
I'll be there a couple of days before deer season opens.
Hope to see that there has been some regular visitors to the feeder.

Is the corn piling up under the feeder???

How close is it to a boundary fence and what is on the other side of the fence.

If you have another feeder on the property that is being hit, the critters should be going to this one.

Not knowing what part of the state your property is in, or the terrain makeup/usage of adjoining properties and the amount of activity on them add to the problem of figuring out why the deer and pigs are avoiding this particular feeder.

When you say you have a game cam set up nearby, is it focused on the feeder itself. I tend to 16 different spin feeders on 6 different properties in Young and Archer counties, and all of them are being hit and hit hard by deer/pigs and turkeys. Our feeders are set to go off at 7 A.M., Noon and 4:30 P.M.

Are there many oak trees on your place and did they have a heavy acorn crop? All of the hunters in this area are seeing lots of activity at their feeders, and quite a few good bucks.

Unless your property is in one of the counties that has a smaller overall deer population, you should be seeing a few deer at least.

I've never tried it to a trap, but we corned for deer all the time in south Texas a lot farther than 150 yards and the pigs would show up too. It certainly can't hurt, although I am surprised they aren't already hitting the feeder. I put up a new feeder three about three weeks ago and the pigs were on it in about three days.

This may sound crazy, but have you checked the ground soon after the feeder goes off? I have one feeder that only feeds at night. Nothing was coming to it except a few early coons. I sat there two hours after feeding and saw nothing. Walked to the feeder and the ground was covered with cut ants. They were packing the corn off and keeping most everything else off it except the early coons! Track down the holes and acephate em!!

Invest $14.00 in a bag of Record Rack Golden Deer Nuggets...not a plug, but the deer and pigs on my places love the stuff, got a strong berry smell. My experience with the stuff has been very good, deer and pigs start using the feeder very quickly, if you use it, don't try and use it straight...it'll plug your feeder. I mix about 1/4 bag with 3 bags of corn, and when I first add it to the feeder I hand throw 5 or 10 lbs around the feeder.
