Got a little break in the heat so I went to the Wife's place. Had 2 inches of rain, humid but at least the plywood box was not an oven! Two velvet bucks showed as the feeder was going off and they kept everything else out of the pen. I was getting worried that all the corn would be gone before a pig could show. A little after ten a dark form scared the deer off but would not come into the lights. Took for ever but a pig came in but did not stay still for long. I figured the corn was scarce so when it got into good light, even though it was facing me I sent one down! 160 pounds, 230 yards, with a 375 Ruger. 74 degrees but very thick, I was drenched by the time I got everything done.

You like the big Ruger calibers, don't you Live Oak? I don't envy you that humidity one bit.

Ruger just happened to make affordable large caliber rifle/ammo combos! Had this discussion with a friend about big bullets. When I sit, I am not out to scare, or wound em. I want them dead right here right now! Big holes improve the odds! Tracking at night in thick brush or high grass and weeds with rattlesnakes about sucks!

Heat will differ. but can ruin a hunt anyplace, cold makes good hunting anyplace in the world. 25 degrees in Texas is fantastic weather, 20 below in Idaho ain't bad at all except for the hunter, but all is not lost 25 degrees in Idaho is still good hunting..I always told my hunters the deer and elk are still out there no matter the weather then don't melt or disappear..but the hunting is tougher, just slow down and use your binocs early and late anyplace usually produces reasonable results..Deer and elk are like gold, they are where you find them.
