Well, hogs are rooting up everywhere and the landowner told me I needed to double down. I went early and baited the trap heavily and told him I would set it Sunday and we'd have all week to get 'em.

I got into my usual spot and about 8:00 heard the landowner (Ken) pop one in the river bottom. Then about 10 minutes later I see a shadow pass between me and the feeder. After 30 minutes it hadn't come back in to the feeder--WTH? Then I turned and scanned the coastal pasture behind me and there he was, about 200 yds away. Winds were perfect so I started a sneak, as quiet as I could be walking through the grass with hog rootings all around. Got to about 100 yds and was thinking about shooting and he started towards the woodline to my right. I slipped off the safety and let him have it--down he went. Then I took a deep breath and scanned a bit and there was another one that I hadn't seen before, coming towards me. I waited until he was comfortably close and dropped him too. Here they are--the weight calculator says 229 and 258 but I'm thinking no way--and then I realized I was measuring from base of tail to tip of nose and should be from base of tail to base of skull. I'll get it right next time.

Here’s the one I used—. Measure along the spine from base of tail to base of skull, and then around the chest at the heart. I just measure from backbone to chest bone and double rather than trying to get under the dead one. Haven’t verified accuracy with a scale.

I think I can count 13 in that last 10 days or so between me and Ken-- tu2

So much work and so little time--but trap is set and hope to have them all in the AM.

And --- had 12 shoats in the trap this morning--

Add this dozen to the previous 13 and that makes 25 in the last 2 weeks. tu2

I sure wish it wasn't so far down there.

What a waste of fine eats.

Glad you are culling the lot at times.

George
