Nail Ranch has a good reputation:

Stasney's Cook Ranch does as well:

Further to the west, Mesquite Country Outfitters hunts the very large Pitchfork Ranch:

I have not hunted with these outfits, but have met and talked to some of the folks, have hunted in the Albany area where the Nail and Cook Ranches are, and have been on the Pitchfork Ranch.

South Texas has a lot of outfitters, and you can hunt ranches as large as the King Ranch.

I hunt on a pasture where guided hunts are available, particularly on the adjoining ranch.

The hogs are usually plentiful in wet years.

I am not sure how large a boar you want, but these are the ones I have taken in the last couple of years (there are larger boars on the ranch, but these were good for sausage and hams):

I can give you contact information for the hunts there (really across the low fence) if you like. I can probably come up with recommendations for other Texas hunts if you wish.

These places are all either spot-and-stalk hunts or hunts over bait from stands or high rack vehicles. There are also people who specialize in hunts with dogs. If that is your preference I can make a recommendation or you could PM Rattlesnaker who posts here.

I guide for trophy boar in central TX and we have a lot of hogs. Check out my website or call me. I look forward to hearing from you.

The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends.

I didn't learn this by reading about it or seeing it on TV. I learned it by doing it.

Is there some reason these websites (I checked Nail Ranch and the "hossfly" link in the previous post) don't clearly indicate the geographical location of the hunting area? I'm looking for something like a map with a big star or something to show where the ranch is. That way, I know if it's a two hour drive or a six hour drive, ya know?

It appears Nail Ranch is in Albany, TX. Albany is located about 125 miles west of Ft. Worth.

The Nail Ranch and the Cook Ranch are both in Shackelford County. As Rattlesnaker posted, Albany is the county seat. The ranch headquarters are both northwest of Albany unless I am mistaken. This is a link to the Mapquest map from Dallas to Albany. They say it is 170 miles.

Mesquite Country Outfitters hunts the 165,000 acre Pitchfork Ranch. It is further northwest of Dallas, in fact nrothewest of Abilene. They have a map on their website here. The closest town is probably Guthrie. This is a link to the Mapquest map from Dallas to Guthrie. They say it is 230 miles, although you can also go through Abilene which means better roads, more miles, but about the same travel time.

The King Ranch is in far south Texas, and Kingsville is the closest town. This is a link to the Mapquest map from Dallas to Kingsville. They say it is 427 miles.

I hunt close to Carrizo Springs, between San Antonio and Laredo. The closest town is Asherton, Texas. I can send you maps or directions to any of these places (Albany, Guthrie, Kingsville, etc.) if you want to PM me or email me (my email adddress is in my profile).

I posted map links from Dallas because DFW is the closest major airport to the Nail, Cook, and Pitchfork ranches. There are much quicker ways to get to south Texas.

I believe that Ryan has posted that he hunts around Brownwood. He can probably tell you more.

I think Charles Helm should receive an award for the most helpful poster on AR. He takes the time to do things that nobody else will.

I could just be the most bored, but don't tell my wife...

Actually, since I posted the links originally I wanted to follow through.

You should check out Caney Creek Lodge near Teague TX. About 1 hour south of Fort Worth. Some good size boars and lots of meat hogs.
