Took my new Ruger Super Blackhawks in .480 Ruger and .454 Casull for a spin in North Carolina a few weeks ago, and got lucky......   There's pork in the freezer...... Well done! Those are some nice hogs.  I really miss shooting/hunting with handguns. There's not much that a Cast Perrformance 320 grain WFN from a .44 Mag at 13-1400 fps couldn't handle, and it never damaged much meat, either. But I miss the Contenders and XPs, too. Their next of kin in rifle format aren't too bad, though.  If you get some time later: What were you shooting in terms of bullets on these hogs? And how was terminal performance? Take care... Thanks Bobby. In the .480 I used Buffalo Bore's new reduced recoil .480 load that slings a 370 grain LFN at a leisurely 1,000 fps. It was one and done at about 45 yards (paced) and it was a high-shoulder shot. The .454 was stoked with Garrett Cartridge's new 365 grain hardcast .45 Colt +P load. The claim is 1,250 fps at the muzzle. That too was one and done at about 25 yards. I went for a high-shoulder but shot a hair low, it humped up, spun around and piled up. Thanks! I always need the gory details ha ha. I won't admit how many creatures were "examined" by me just to assess bullet performance. And that even included varmints. Heck, I'd always take a facing shot on a coyote over broadside any day just because there was a greater chance of keeping the bullet inside and recovering it. Of course, with the big bores and the types of bullets you use, recovering one would be akin to winning the lottery! They penetrate exceptionally well.
