Im hunting wild boars with Bill ,he killed a boar after a long following by the dogos ,with knife two days ago ,yesterday we losed a puma after a chase with the dogs ,today we found two really big boars but i was with only a dog Esquel who atacked the boars bravely he used a collar but was severly cutted in a leg ,neck and maxilar area one of the cuts passed milimenters from the carotid artery ,finally the boar was putted down i counted 8 shots of the bowen 45colt .Juan

I am glad to hear that the artery was not cut. I hope he is back to normal soon.

Wish I could have been there to see my friend attack a boar with just a knife.

Bill first of all i must say thank you my friend ,thank you for the books ,thank you for the dedications and i wish you will come some day .Esquel was injured not in the knife hunt but in a gun hunt by a boar with 8 or 6 bullets of a 45colt he saved his life ,but now he has an infection im taking care of him daily.Your friend killed his boar in the nigth with knife and he said he feeled an incredible emotion not similar to anything ,but he will report later .Im going to hunt a puma that jumped in front of our truck.Juan

What a wonderful and exciting experience. Hunting with Juan is in itself a great pleasure. He is intense and dedicated. I will write more once I get settled in. The taking of the boar with my knife was scary, but after it was done I told Juan that if I had a choice, it would be the only way to hunt boars in the future, a cuchillo and good dogs.

It was very dark, and we had located a few feral hogs. I was still not sure of this knife idea, and we had my 45-70 and my 45 Colt revolver along. As soon as we spotted the hogs Juan jumped out and released Esquel and Lanuel, his two Dogos. Those dogs are another story.

It seemed only a few minutes and I heard a squealing and a real battle in the bush, Branches cracking, a battle was on. Juan shouting at me..."Bill, bring the knife..run" as he grabbed my Ruger and my Marlin. Juan's son, "Ikki," led the way for me through the branches and brush, in the dark with the meager flashlight beam ahead about 30 yards on the Dogos and the boar. I am not that quick on my feet any more and I did my best....I came up to a scene I will never forget. Lanuel had the boar by the head with Esquel on the other side. In and out of the light....these are two big dogs and yet that boar was shaking them about as they continued to hang on.

"Bill, come on, get in here and kill him...." I went in with some concern but my adrenaline was pumping so hard and I was so excited that I forgot about being nervous about this knife thing and went right in..."Bill, stick him right there..." says Juan, pointing to the chest area just back of the leg. Easier said than done, I thought, as they continued to scramble about in a circle over the logs and branches. In I go, and take my Muela bowie and shove it in, and it went in so easily, "twist it..." Juan says, and almost immediately a great gush of blood ran out onto my hand, the knife now buried deep. The kill was quicker than I ever would have imagined. The boar immediately down and the dogs savaging it as a hunting dog would.

The story with Esquel and how he was hurt I will save for another time. I will only add here that Juan knows his stuff and knows it well. He has a great love for his dogs and they return his affection for them with devotion and a most amiable manner. And his son, Ikki, at 10 years old, is skilled and has already used the cuchillo on boars. As fine a lad as you will ever have the pleasure to be in the field with.

More in the next few days.....birds, iguanas, boars, goats....a wonderful friendship has been born. One regret, I wish my amigo Bill Quimby could have been there with me.

I can only said one thing now then ill write more as im trying to find a puma that jump in front of as at dayligth ,thank you to this forum for letting me know such good friends .Bill at 69 is pure hunting and wilderness we have now a friendship that will last for the rest of our lifetime and perhaps in the Valhalla too .juan

Im after a puma but IKI killed another hog with his ruger 22lr a shot above the eye in an alfalfa field .Steve post the photos of the Tennesee hunt.Juan

Hes only injured in the front leg i took him to hunt ducks with my lab africa and he chased a hog the hog injured him in his front leg Africa is smarter and she never permitted to be injured ,she even stolen the ducks from my brother weimaraner.Juan
