Went to my lease last Wednesday. Didn’t get there till late so, had a couple toddies, listened to some tunes and called it a night. However, starting Thursday morning, no mercy.

Shot four porkers and snared two more between Thursday morning and Sunday morning.

I’ve re-activated a spot I call the canopy. It is at the top of one of the hills and literally has a “killer view.

I’ve set up a feeder at 165 yds.+/-. for sniping hoglets.

Look closely and you can see a dead hoglet under the feeder.

First thing Thursday morning I nailed one. Took a look around and saw two more out about ¾ mile away.

The hoglet under the black dot in the photo is about 1,200 yds. I climbed down, jumped on my ATV, rode within 300 yds., and put a stalk on them, however, the only way I could approach them was from the south and the wind betrayed me, they got my scent and boogied. I let a couple shots fly after them, but no blood. Bummer.

I snagged another Merkel a while back. This one is in 9.3 x 74R. I’ve long wanted a rifle in this caliber. I tried last month, but the piggies didn’t co-operate. This sow came in just before dark. I nailed her at 80 yds, Entry at the point of the right shoulder. Exit through ribs on the left side. DRT.

I had an old Sako S-491 action and Boyds Laminated thumbhole stock laying around waiting for a barrel for about 10 years. Finally had a smith do a 223 AI. I’ve mounted an old Burris Signature 8 x 32 variable on it. It took about 5 minutes but a hoglet finally stopped moving long enough for me to draw a bead.

223 AI, 55 gr. Sierra Spitzer.

Can you say “frontal lobotomy”

I set snares Friday evening. Saturday morning I caught this sow.

Got another one Sunday morning, but did not take pix.

Sunday morning I sat out once more at the canopy and nailed this one with my Nosler Model 48 in 325 WSM and 200 gr. Accubonds.

The buzzards were eating “high on the hog” by time I left Sunday evening.

Looks like good meat pigs too.
Don't sound like you kept 'em though.
That many less for the time being.
Some nice views too, thanks for sharing.

Nice GW. Looks as though you may have been using some of Bobbys "Pork Perforator" bullets. Looks like that AI did a number on that pig......

By God, Woodrow; it's been one hell of a party.

Dang, Glenn. I can picture you walking around with all those guns in a golf bag over your shoulder. Hmmmmmm, should I use the 9.3x74R or the 325 WSM?

Scott,

close, but not a golf bag, and usually no more than two rifles.

A while back I picked up an Eberlestock Gunrunner H20. It's pretty much a minimalist day pack with a tuckable scabbard. I usually will put a rifle in the scabbard. Then depending on morning/evening, tripod or hillside I lash other gear to the pack.

My little Sako Riihimaki in 222 Rem has almost become my go to scabbard gun. I load it with 45 gr. Barnes TSX’s. Don’t blow up fox and varmints, but with careful shot placement works great for turkey and hogs and other targets of opportunity.

I carry my second rifle with one hand or sling it, and keep one hand free should I need to access my sidearm.

I also take mouth calls and sometimes my Foxpro FXIII caller. I can set up and call varmints while waiting on hogs. Adds to the fun. If you incorporate a live motion decoy such as a quiver rabbit, it’s amazing how many birds of prey will come to check it out.
Great opportunity for photos.

I figure it’s better to have it an not need it than need it and not have it.
