Nothing too dramatic: I stalked within about 30-yards of several sows and little ones that were working over some corn we had thrown out the day before. I kept hid and still until 10-minutes before dark and this one appeared at about 150 yards traveling perpindicular to the others. He stopped, sniffed, took a few steps towards the others, stop, sniff, stop, sniff and then came boiling into the group to get his share. At about 50 yards, he stopped, and I popped him with the right. He ran about 50 yards and fell over. Here's one I shot on the same place the year before. This one fell to a 470 and also went over 220.

Thanks for the details, new_guy. That second hog is nice as well! He looks like he would have made a nice mount. "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." Great hog there. I have to ask, is the Heym catalog mailed out yet? Sorry to highjack. And now, back to your regular scheduled pig hunting. Packy

Nothing like shooting a domestic Hampshire pig and paying to do it. I used to raise pigs to show for 4H and FFA. In North America they are called Hampshires in Britain they are called belted black. My 1991 Socorro county fair Grand Champion pig was a Hampshire. My 1992 and 1993 Tri-County fair grand champions in Montana were Durocs (the solid russet red one)

The first one may be of Hampshire descent, but they are both equally wild. These two hogs were taken off of the same 60K acre (low fence) ranch here in Texas. Whatever hogs are on the place have made it there on their own.

My 2004 and 2005 county fair champs were crosses. My sister has had the champion spot at the state fair the last two years. Maybe even I could get that lucky I could afford one of those expensive double rifles. Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too! Recent college grad, started a company called MK Machining where I'm developing a bullpup rifle chassis system.
