Went to my place last night. Got in the gate to my usuall parking spot and smell pigs! Hoping it was a good omen! I had not been at the tower very long and heard traffic up wind of me. About ten minutes before the feeder went off I noticed several light shapes up the feeder. A sounder of pigs and looked like two big sows. I have let the feeder go off and run em off and they did not come back! Picked out the biggest sow, as there was little or no corn on the ground they were moving! Touched one off and everything broke. Disapointing there was no lump in the pen! Wait or go look? As I approched the fence I could see blood leaving the pen! She was hosing lung and blood! The hosing turned in to spraying, then to smearing. Got to be a few drops and then none! I left the ATV running so it would be easier to find my way back, so I was probably already 50 yards in. When they are running dead, mostly they run straight. There was a large low hanging mesquite straight 10 yards ahead that I would have had to crawl under. Skirted it and there she was about another 25 yards. Impressive run for a .416 hole through the lungs! Now for the interested part. Do I go back and carry the camera and chin can in or drag her out. Ignore the chain ( I wish I could chain em) thats how I dragged her out to the lights for pictures! Probably a couple of hundred pounds and she was very much in heat!

The coffee can strikes again! Live Oak, does the sow being in heat affect meat quality?

I no longer eat them. Never did have any feral pork that was that good. I have had two friends become seriously sick just from skinning them out. Compromised PPE! A sow in heat has a very loud thick syrupy sweet smell. On a calm day it will linger 30 to 45 Minutes after she walks by! I am told a pregnant sow is the best eating. She will lose all scent to protect her new born. Land Owners want them gone, I am here to help!

Like a Timex watch! Nice shot and a good hog.

(And of course we're interested. Who doesn't love a happy ending like this?)
