Hey All,

I thought I would post a pic and some details of my hunt last week on the Big Island of Hawaii. I scheduled the hunt a while back knowing I would be going to the Island for my 15-year wedding anniversary. My wife was kind enough to let me have a day to myself and go boar hunting.

I met my guide Patrick Fisher from the Parker Ranch Hunt Club promptly at 5AM. I felt a little odd, as all I had with me was a bottle of water, my boots, inadequate optics and my hunting license. My gun and other gear did not make it over with me. Patrick assured me that it was all-good and let me know he would take care me. We quickly went through the formalities and then were off to the hunt. We took a short drive out of Waimea into the rolling hills. To my surprise we headed right out in the open pastures to spot hogs at first light. We spotted three hogs right off. They were about 1000 yards out. With the low light it was real difficult to tell if they were quality so after about 10 minutes of taking a hard look we decided to move on. The next group we spotted turned out to be two young boars and a sow. Since we were right out in the open the hogs were easy to spot but they were so far away it was hard to tell the quality. These hogs look so different than the boars in CA I had to rely on Patrick to make sure I was going to take a shot at a nice one. Again we decided to move on. We were now running out of time for a morning trophy boar. We spotted two good-looking boars on the move to bed down so we took off towards them. Once we crested the hill they had moved on another 1500 yards or so and were still on the move. It was looking like our morning efforts were going to waste. Then glassing to our left over a couple of hills big draw or two we spotted a group of eight and a couple of singles. This was our last chance at a successful morning hunt. We quickly decided to go ahead and get a better look. So down one hill and into a small draw we went. We popped up every so often to see what was in the group. One of the singles was huge and was all puffed up. He soon spotted us and took off into the brush. Fortunately he didn’t spook off the main group. Then Patrick spotted another shooter in the group of eight but we needed to get closer. So off we went. By this time I was trying to catch my breath. At 4000 feet and after a week of partying and lounging at the pool I was having second thoughts about this being a relaxing vacation hunt. Patrick was ecstatic by this time and urging me on that this is what we are looking for. The wind kept changing so we had to keep changing our direction and stalk. Finally we pop up on to a hill opposite the hogs where the grass was tall enough for me to lay down and get set up. We were about 150 yards out. The boar was quartering away and starting to move slowly towards taller grass so I took the shot. Boom…he dropped right there. Patrick started celebrating while I was in shock for a moment. Then the adrenaline kicked in I was higher than the mountain. Once I got a close up I was even more elated at the quality of this Polynesian boar and then realized I had been on an equally awesome spot and stalk hunt in one of the most beautiful places in world.

I cannot say enough about Patrick and give him the credit for my morning success. He is intelligent, honest, hard working and tougher than lava rock. He treated me to a tour of the ranch included with meets and greets with the local paniolo’s. We had lunch back in town at a local café where the fare matched the locale. I spent the rest of the day with him that included an afternoon Spanish Goat hunt. It was supposed to be the easy part of the day. To make a long story short I was so spent that I almost lost my lunch. That is a whole different story and since this is the hog forum I wont go into it here.

If you are thinking of going on Vacation in Hawaii and want to get off the tourist path I would highly suggest a day or two with Patrick on the Parker Ranch. They also offer upland game and turkeys are plentiful.

Can I get a shout out Late-Bloomer?

You guys were right this Trophy Boar is a Monster...he's a BEAUTY and a BEAST!!!

He's a real good example of what I look for in a Trophy Boar Hunt at Parker Ranch with Pat Fisher...

Congrats on your hunt and I'm real happy for you that you enjoyed the entire adventure...

I leave next Wed. for a hunt with Pat and I hope I meet up with the same type of results...

And Happy Anniversary for you and the Mrs...

Some monster cutters on that critter! Congrats!

I agree, there must not be a lot of sand or whatnot where the hogs are. Where I was hunting before in the sand dunes I guess with the food being in the sand it would grind their teeth off!

We have the same issues with Florida hogs and their teeth -- too much damn sand!

This one was taken with a 270, Federal Powershock 130GR. Which is a fairly lighter load than I normally use for Hogs. I used Patricks weapon as mine was back on the mainland. Did the job right then and there.

There wasnt much sand up there we were pretty high up and on this particular part of the Ranch it seemed to be fairly well established with plenty of grasses for the game to eat.

Roland have a great hunt my man!

Next time I come out we should go out together.

Thanks for the well wishes gents!

Even a 270 w/130 bullets are up for the job as long as no big muscles or bone is hit. I know a dude who only takes his 223 along and takes them behind the ear. But then again, his particular 223 is capable of 3/8" 5-shot groups @100yds all day long.

That is a little complicated. Since we were on our Anniversary week the vacation overall was quite expensive. I am not a rich guy or anything so it was exspensive to me but a much needed vacation. However the boar hunt was $650.00 with no tropy fee. (well worth it) Patrick did not gurantee me a trophy and actually suggests at least one morning and two evenings to produce a trophy boar. I had explained to him that I only had one day so we decided on one morning and one evening with a goat hunt in the middle of the day and if there was no opportunity for a trophy I would go home empty handed or make a decision to take a good representing speciman. So thats what we did and it payed off big time. The Spanish goat hunt was very physically challenging for me.

If you are serious I would contact Patrick for a Hunt Package that details all the fees and added info for the ranch. He sent me a packet in the mail that explained everything.

pfisher@parkerranch.com http://www.parkerranch.com

Also.....Yes full shoulder mount! Its going to look awesome in my office.

O.K., O.K.,
I feet the pressure. We could do an AR Niihau pig fest. It would have to be between the months of June to August. And, limited to 4 shooters plus me as the camp cook with a rifle. Being also armed, helps keep the criticism of my bad cooking to a minimum. Brother Roland is a professional chef and I will gladly accept help.

All shooters must understand that this will be a cull hunt, not trophy hunt. We give you quantity, not quality. You are not to shoot the so called trophy. If you shoot one, make sure that I don't see it.

It is common for 200 plus porkers and 50 feral sheep to be taken during the 2.5 day hunt. The sheep are used for pig bait. Head shot sheep are also taken for the native residents. There are absolutely no facilities on the island. We camp out on the beach. There is a small pavillion for shelter. If you want to wash up, you must jump into the lagoon when the tiger sharks are not checking out the monk seals. There is no running water, paved roads, electricity, or telephone. Thus, the ladies are not invited.

If the wives want to join you, they must lay on the beach on Kauai while you hunt on Niihau.

Access to the island is by helicopter charter. If you don't like flying in a helicopter, especially over water, this is not for you.

Handguns are permitted. Autoloaders are not allowed. I once used a muzzleloader but was told by the boss man that I would be fired for being too slow on the job. There is very little walking as we ride from waterhole to waterhole to cover as much ground as possible to whack the porkers.

O.K. Roland and Dom, as the "local coordinators", get some dates set and let me know so I can lock in the time availability.

O.K. guys,
Mid August is a good time. The cull hunt always starts on a Thurs. and ends at noon on Sat. So, mark you calenders for Aug. 14-16 or Aug. 21-23. It should not be the weekend of Hawaii Statehood Admissions day as the flights and hotel/condo accomodations will be full. Everyone should plan on arriving on Kauai on Wed. afternoon. The helo leaves about 8:30AM. We return on Sat. at 2:00PM and go straight to the package store to buy rehydration supplies. We always stay Sat. night to clean up so they allow us back on the plane on Sunday.

Those who want to go, please drop me a PM and provide your email address so I can brief everyone on the estimated cost sharing, etc. This will be inclusive of helo charter, guides, vehicles on the island, van rental on Kauai, condo or house rental on Kauai, grub and supplies. If we have more than 4 shooters plus me, we can do 2 helo flights for 8 people including me. We will have two vehicles, two driver/guides and two gate openers.

If you want information on the island, look at:

WW and BGMT....

This is it buddies....

And Scopebite, we just talked earlier on the phone before I viewed the rest of this thread...
I told you beforehand Unko Geoff and Ultramag is da guyz that I choose to follow...Now , we are all serious to go...Check your schedule and don't say a thing until you seriously know one way or another...

If your wife wants to come over, maybe my wife and baby girl can meet her on Kauai for a nice time but no promises just yet....

We've all wanted to go on this very SPECIAL "cull hunt" with Unko Geoff, so now you have a chance of a lifetime to experience this great adventure...Let us know one way or another as soon as you are able to commit "Yeh" or "Nay"...

Commitment and desire is what we desire...Let's not waste anyone's time...BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT...

If you are able.... Let me tell you...You are in for one of the greatest times of your life in comaraderie, in camp, in Aloha, in a hunting shoot-out cull hunt...I won't tell Unko Geoff if you don't tell Unko if we shoot a trophy, cause there is no time to look around ...but just unload , reload, unload, reload....

Bradda Dom and Unko Geoff are the type of people I extremely desire to share my hunting life with along with my son and basking in their HUMBLE presence...

This group don't have no egos, but come to take care of business at hand with big smiles on their faces at the end of a good days work...

PM or call any one of us...

We aren't fooling around...

This is not for show but this is for "lasting" beloved friendships and memories that will last a lifetime and that's all I can promise vouching for Unko Geoff's integrity and track-record and Bradda Dom's genuine Spirit of Aloha...

Sorry about making a big point of it all, but its worth that much to us to make an event like this materialze in the best interest of all parties involved...

With much Aloha,

Ro

Put it this way my brother...99.999% of us Hawaiian Islanders have never been to the beautiful private island of Ni'ihau either...

That's one of the reasons I'm going over...

The main reason is to be together with awesome people like Ultra Mag and Uncle Geoff with a bunch of porkers all around me for the whacking and to be with you fellow AR Family members...PERIOD.

Only you guys can make it happen and you will not be disappointed because I'm already booked when Unko Geoff wakes up and sees me talking all the ho-hum here already...

He knows Dom and I are serious...Just saying come on lets do it together...But check your finances and your schedules out first...Don't commit if you are unsure...Take your time to plan correctly and if you are too late in all this we will be happy to post stories and pics for everyone on the forum....Just don't take all of this non-chalantly is all we ask...This is for real and we will plan very hard for a successful, memorable time...

I've never desired before to hunt with a gang of guyz besides Unko Geoff and Bradda Dom...It is a dream for this to happen...Over time WW, BGMT, and Scopebite we all got close through AR...

All I ever desire now is to bring all of us together if that's what you guys desire ...No pressure at all...Just letting you guys know you folks have alot of support here from committed individuals as ourselves...

Think about it hard gang, if you are able great...if you are unable that's all good to...

Being SOLID is all that matters!!!
