Gun: Weatherby Vanguard, .308 Win (I think I bought this gun from Bobby Tomek? I developed a load for it and it's a tack driver!)
Bullet:165 Sierra Game King HPBT
Range: 100 yards +/-
Camera - I filmed the entire thing with the Panasonic Lumix camera. It films in 1080p HD at 60 fps. I was impressed with some of the footage I got in Africa, so I tried it on this Pig hunt. (Mainly because it was raining and I didn't want to take my good gear into the field.)

See the video below for the complete hunt.

We don't get big tusks in my country for some reason. Maybe too rocky? I have taken three very good boar out there. This last one, I managed to get on film.

I had see this pig on the game camera and knew that I wanted him! He stood out as an exceptional animal, and since big tusks are kind of tough to come by up here, I made it a point to hunt this particular pig.

In the end, it was way too easy. I was in the blind just long enough to settle in before he strolls out into the field. He didn't stay long, he was gone before I could get a clear shot at him, but, he did come back out a few minutes later.

Big Boar Down!

He weighed in at just a hair under 200. I just couldn't get that scale to read 200, no matter how hard I stared at it. I'm going to call him 200. Close enough.

Good shot Wendell!

Man, those scales is just exactly what I was doing to them this time last yr. Now it's right at 250. Sure wish I could enjoy eating and not put it around my middle so much. Gotta get out of this chair and get to doing things again.

Hope that old bugger is going in the freezer. Rain sure makes a mess of things don't it?

Thanks for sharing, enjoyed watching.
George

I really like these Vanguards. They are cheap, but every one I have shoots very well. I did some stock modification, bedded it and worked up a few loads that it likes very well.

I forgot to I mention, If you look closely in the slo-motion portion you can actually see the bullet coming from the left side and hitting the pig high in the neck.

By the way, here is a thread on the camera I bought. Saeed is a wealth of knowledge on cameras so I took his lead and bought the Lumix.

Leica or Lumix?

I don't know about tusks but in my area we don't get huge antlers because there isn't very much calcium in the soil.Maybe it's the same for tusks.

We get big antlers! Maybe it's genetics?

We shot a 216 lb sow the next morning. She had tiny teeth. Sows don't usually have much for teeth anyway.

That is her on the left. She looks smaller than the boar, but she outweighed him by 17 lbs. (we had a bit of freezing rain that night!)

Here is a closeup of the teeth on the boar.

Wendell, very impressive. You are becoming quite the film editor. That was put together nicely. I especially enjoyed the disclaimers on the front and back end.

My attorney wrote that for me. Or ... I wrote that for him.

I can't remember which.

Think you have enough hoist for that boar?
OR are you hoping to get one that needs that much lift? Wink

Outstanding video!

The hogs reaction(head thrown back, hind legs collapse) reminds me of a brain shot elephant.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.
