Happy Independence Day!

Probably doesn't belong on the hog forum so I better add a pic of the pork ribs I'm smoking right now.

Great posts. We are seeing what Red Skelton talked about. Our country is divided. Many schools stopping the pledge of allegiance.

CH,

I love that song. It never meant more to me than when it was played for us in Air Force boot camp back in 1989. I grew up with Reagan as president. It never occurred to me that 28 years later I would see so many that don't think America is exceptional.

Scott-Actually, it's largely hearsay about schools stopping the recital of the Pledge. It is required by legislation in 43 states, and research indicates it is still recited in public elementary school in the other 7 states. There are tons of Facebook memes and social media "articles" from the far-right claiming it has been taken out of schools, but that is just another divisive tactic by agenda-driven extremists. It's much like the claim that Bibles were banned from public school when no such thing ever happened.
