I have used 35 REM, 270win, 300 win mag and 8mm. All worked very well on hogs. Even used 45 ACP once .

I've seen a ton of pigs taken but don't know a darn thing about tree stands.

In general I tell my clients that most any deer or elk rifle will work fine for pigs.

Pigs, especially big boars, can be pretty tough on bullets so avoid fast expanding bullets if you can.

Most of our opportunities tend to come in low light so a scope really seems to help success.

Personally I carry a .375 H&H the most, but as with anything else placement it is more important than horsepower so I suggest taking whatever you shoot the best.

Great hunting with great hunters,

Kyler

My favorites are a 308 shooting a 165gn and a 7x57 150gn both Nosler Partitions at about 2650fps or so.Just be sure not to shoot behind the shoulder as you might on a deer. see this; http://www.texasboars.com/anatomy.html capt david

"It's not how hard you hit 'em, it's where you hit 'em." The 30-06 will, with the right bullet, successfully take any game animal in North America up to 300yds. Get closer!

no need to trust the hunting gods, you point a 280 or 300 wetherby in the right direction there ant a pig on this planet that will still be standing.
have a look at some anatomy diagrams of pigs for shot placement and you will be fine
all the best on the trip

Two Canoes,

Hogs aren’t hard to kill if you hit them in the right place. I try to place my bullet about 2†below the ear on a line between the ear and shoulder. I reload and typically use nosler partitions, but most any bullet will work. I have shot hogs with calibers ranging from 22 hornet to 45-70.
Some examples to the best of my recollection

45-70/400 gr. speer flat point

375 H&H/260 gr sierra spitzer

300 wsm/165gr. sierra spitzer

30-06/180 gr. partition

7 mag/150 gr ballistic silvertip

270 winchester/150 gr. soft point factory load

257 weatherby/120 gr. partition

240 weatherby/85 gr. nosler partition

I shoot a .308 with the Sierra 168 Grain Hollowpoints. Put the shot behind the ear, and they seem to drop every time.

Mink and Wall Tents don't go together. Especially when you are sleeping in the Wall Tent.

Any deer rifle; any pistol caliber over 38 special if you're using dogs and get close enough.

Last one I shot I stuck my compact 45 ACP in his ear in a brushpile.
