Gentlemen:

Below is the photo of the hog I bagged at the January 2007 DRSS hunt in Brady, Texas. The mount was done by Matthew McWilliams who was also one of the guides at that hunt.

This was the first animal that was taken with my .577 NE double rifle. I hit him with 750 grain Woodleigh softs at approximately 40 yards. I was in a ground blind and he approached me from over my right shoulder. When I planned to take the shot, I had to get on my knees in order to see out of the blind.

I was freezing as I hadn't planned properly for the cold weather for the hunt.

I aimed a little too low on my first shot, and as you can see from the photo, I took the hog's front legs off.

Coming out of recoil, he was on the ground, but trying to get up. When he was on this front legs, now "stumps", I said, "F-it" and put the second round (left barrel) behind the front shoulder. What you see is the entrance wood of a 750 grain soft point going 2050 feet per second at 40 yards.

Matt is doing another mount for me for the hog I got at the June 2007 DRSS hunt in Brady. This baby bottomed the scales out and we guesstimated he weighed 315 to 325 lbs.

No injury to me. I can only think that it happened when we loaded the monster into the truck.

Hell yeah it is!

My old man (Doc52 here on AR) hunted with the .577 the second night in January 2007, shot a hog from about 60 yards in an elevated blind (about 15 feet up), and the 750 grain soft nose darn near gutted the whole chest area of the hog for the guides. It was an amazing scene!
