Well from the tracks in the snow thiis morning there is still at least one feral pig in the neighborhood.
The track is avout 1 1/4-1 1/2" inch in diameter.

What size pig should I be expecting to see when/IF I see it.

Seems to be nocturnal, at least here afoud the house!

My guess is that the pig weighs around 125 lbs. Let us know when you "hang" it up on the scales.

I'd say 75 to 100, but there's a fair amount of difference between what I call a 1 1/4 inch track and a 1 1/2 incher.

My goal was to have him hanging in a tree cooling, hence the 1886 with a dose of 4759 and 340 RCBS RNFP PB behind the door.

Little rascal seems to be nocturnal so that may not be. I did see someone hauling a hog trap back to the neighbors last week!

In college I took length and width measurements with a micrometer from over 50 pigs we took through the guided hunts. The pigs were also weighed and I used the two measurements to try to create a regression equation that would accurately predict the weight according to the hoof size.

No accurate correlation could be statistically calculated between a reasonably close weight prediction and hoof size.

Obviously if you just want to be within 50 pounds or so just experiencee would give you that but I was really hoping to get within 10 or 20 pounds using a regression equation.

Maybe that SWAG scared everyone off, so let's just go with WAG. I was thinking meausurement to the nearest .25" and weight to nearest 50-100 lbs, depending on accuracy of the method, that should fit WAGvs SAWG. Hey, I have the 338 and Model 1886 behind the door (Now I had to add the 222 for the 3 feral cats) so if them catch it in the driveway, one of the rifles is bound to work. I am sure there are some here that would say that 45-70 is NOT overkill for feral house cat.

One neighbor was over visiting the nearest neighbor last week and said they have killed about a hundred so far in the last year in the "neighborhood".

Methinks this is kinda unique for something within 30 Miles of Nashville.

How big do you think a feral hog is that has a 4.5 inch hoof print from front to back and side to side of about a little bigger?

Saw the tracks at one of the feeders but im guessing he's a nocturnal one.

And no its not a cow lol

All of our hogs seem to nocturnal. Makes sense since the biggest piece of property around here is only a couple of hundred acres. Survival is better if they are out when we are NOT.

Most of them taken in the neighborhood have been trapped!

One thing that I've found to help keep the nocturnal hogs out a little longer and perhaps after daybreak is a bottled product called Black Gold. There's a post farther down on this board regarding it. I've tried lots of things, and this is definitely a magnet that tends to keep them around. You can wrap a rope around a post or tree and soak it with BG -- and they'll come back again and again to rub against it.

You may want to give it a whirl...

Ok, I have read about Black Gold, I am convinced enough to try it, Now if I could just figure out where to buy it, I would be in great shape. Web search found a lot of things, but NOT this Black Gold.

Anyone want to offer hint where to buy it?
Thanx
