I have often thought of buying another Marlin in 44mag some a-hole stole the blue one I had. I think it would make a great brush gun for Hogs & Deer it did work great on head shot rabits.

Aloha Late-Bloomer! What loads do you two plan on using in your Marlins?

Hey Brudda
Nice Marlins. I don't know if you handload or not but some factory loads with the 300 gr JSP's will do the job every time. I've had a 44 carbine in various forms for years and the Marlin 357 I had got took from me by gf after I introduced her to shooting them. I like the Hornady XTP's in jacketed and the 300 LFN's in the Buffalo Bores. Try them, you'll like them.

Late Bloomer has set a bad example, and my 1894SS will be here today. I am planning a "standard" scope set up on mine.

My dream hog bullet for a 44 mag would be one loaded with a LeverEvolution bullet. I am not a reloader (yet), but I am anticipating the day that LeverEv bullets are released to reloaders.

I'd go with a heavy (300 grains +) hardcast.......

Aloha Late Bloomer,
That's a nice setup for porkers. Your scopes must have an extra long eye relief. What make, model, and power are the scopes? For what we have in the islands, the 44 mag. in a lever gun is perfect.

I use an old converted 92 Win. in 44 mag. In fact, will be using it starting this Thurs. thru Sat. to whack as many porkers as possible on Niihau Island.

Aloha GEOFF,

Thanks for the compliments....

It's for me and my son....

I bought a cheapo NcStar 2-7x32 Scope, eye-relief is perfect for a scout set-up.

I had a friend who recommended the entire set-up and those Marlins shoot my Winchester 240GR JSP Factory Ammo into one ragged hole at 50 yards, I couldn't believe it....

I sure need to find a place to use it more often...Niihau??? Roll Eyes

Nice talkin' to you again...its been awhile...

I bet you are ready for your up-coming season!

Be safe and take care my friend...

Aloha,

Late-Bloomer

Aloha Late-Bloomer,

If the Win. 240 JSP shoots that well, stick to it. Heavier bullets are good, but if other than factory, make sure your Marlin will cycle the handloaded cartridges properly. Getting "hung up" when trying to put down a porker defeats having a nice cowboy assault rifle like yours.

Will drop you a PM next week when I return and share some Niihau war stories with you.

I've been hunting pigs with my Marlin 1894 44 mag for 31+ years now and using 240 grain JSPs exclusively, never had to shoot a pig twice, and my biggest was 300+ pounds. I've never felt the need to go heavier on out local pigs.
