Went for a early morning hunt on a small block close to home. Had a horse carcass on the ground so hopeful there might be a boar on it.
Waited for the light to come and a light fog so moved towards the carcass with the wind perfect. 100 m out stopped and listened for any sounds of pigs on the carcass. Nothing so cautiously approached.
No action on the carcass and I was disapointed. Decided to check the boundry fence and a marshy area.
A bit of fresh sign at the start of the swampy / marshy area. Mob pigs moving thru. Continued on and found a real fresh set of boar tracks. Followed them away from the swamp and headed up into the timber. Had gone about a 100m and spotted the boar sneaking of into the long grass. Waited for him to stop and shoulder shot him at about 45m, he ran forward about 30m and stopped . I head shot him with the next shot and he dropped at the shot.
We decided to split up and continue thru the swamp. i contoured around the edge and found a small mob of pigs feeding in the pandanus. 40m shot on a sandy colored boar and a hasty running shot at a small pig had two on the ground. Pigs went in all directions and it wasnt long before there was a shot from Chris's shotgun .
Caught up with Chris and he had missed.
Went and got the car and whilst we were there picked up splendid my mates dog and went back for photos and dressing of the pigs.
Let splendid out and said to Chris if he barks get to him as quick as you can, he'll have a pig.
hadnt started taking photos and splendid started barking. covered the 400m to him and he had a small boar bailed. After a couple of charges and run arounds Chris got a clear shot and dropped the boar with a head shot. From his 12gauge and a solid SG combo load.
Chris was stoked.
dressed the pigs out and travelled home .
A good start to the new year. Cheers Mick

Hell of a deal Mick, here you've already had a great day hunting pigs yet it's still an hour to go over here before the end of this miserable 2013 ends.

Glad you got a great start on 'em.
Do the same tomorrow and lets hear n see 'em.

Aren't you from around Darwin somewhere?
Thanks for sharing.

George
