I am going to be in Austin, TX over the Thanksgiving holiday. I was wondering if you guys could recomnend a ranch/Guide for hog hunting near there. I am planning on the week after the Thanksgiving holiday. I am planning on using a 45 colt or 500 S&W handgun. Thanks, Dan

There are a zillion outfitters who do hog hunts around and south of Austin. How upscale an experience are you looking to find? There's a full range of experiences on the market. analog_peninsula analog_peninsula ----------------------- It takes character to withstand the rigors of indolence.

Well I've never been on Guided hunt before. so this will be a new experience. I am not looking for a Super deluxe type deal with turn down linen service or anything, just a hunt with a pretty good chance of getting a hog. I have seen hunts on the net from $300 to $1000. Thanks, Dan

All of the following are in central Texas. They are in no particular order; they were recommended to me by friends, but I haven't hunted with them myself, since I live futher north. I believe them all to be reputable, but you should take all the normal precautions. http://www.dbhogranch.com/ http://www.shinytoptexashoghunts.com/ http://www.thompsontemple.texaswildlife.net/ http://www.captainterry.com/hunting/default.htm http://www.campcooley.com/hunting.htm At any rate, it will be a good place from you to start. Also, I'm sure that Jeffe can give a list of places to try as well. I believe that he's down around Houston. analog_peninsula analog_peninsula ----------------------- It takes character to withstand the rigors of indolence.

Thanks for the info, I'll check these guys out. I have shot and gutted/butchered deer but never hogs. I also don't think my In-laws would be to happy to have a 200+ pound pig cut up in the garage!! It looks like most of these guys are set up to assist with getting your animal processed so that is waht I will do. I am driving down from New Hampshire so getting the meat home will be important. Thanks, Dan

700 Nitro What kind of success did you guys have at camp cooley? that place looks pretty big. I would rather not hunt at a put and take area. Thanks, Dan

Here are a few photos. I hope 700 doesn't mind. Here is his pig and mine along with a photo of Alan and robert in the skinning shed working on, I think, Jim's pig. All taken were in that same size group. One morning Bill 74 and I saw a hog in the 300lb plus catagoy but it was behind a hot fence and quite a way out and we couldn't follow up. It was my first time so I cannot evaluate the area but there was water and lots of cover and a lot of guys seeing pigs which is good for a hot August anywhere. Frank
