Red,
I lived in the Bay Area at one time. We used to be able to get on Hunter Liggett for pigs and deer. Also you should be able to find some in Los Padres Nat'l Forest in Monterey County. We used to go in from Greenville, south of Salinas. Good luck, let me know what happens if go. Been a long time, lots of good memories from those days.

Dago-

I grew up in Fresno. In fact, I'm moving back after my wedding in June. I can understand the crunch that a wedding tends to put on the finances!

Try up above Pine Flat. Follow the road around to the back of the lake, and hike in a ways. Maybe up Bear Wallow trail. The area has some private land, but national forest begins at the back side of the lake. If you haven't been up there, it can be pretty steep at times, but there are also some gently rolling hills once you make it to the top. There are also some great views of the Kings river from up there. Stop by a forest service office and get one of their maps. You'll find the road that follows the edge of the lake, then goes up along the river quite a ways. I have hunted up there before, and seen a fair bit of sign. I haven't personally pulled any pork out of there, but I know guys who have. You might want to knock on some doors around there too. You might just find someone in Squaw Valley that would be happy to have you rid them of some bacon. Stop in at the store at Pine Flat. They might be able to provide a connection too.

Hope this helped some. Maybe we'll run into eachother on the hill sometime. Where do you hunt deer?

Gib

Got another idea.

Bobb Robb wrote a book about hunting pigs in CA. It has a whole list of possible spots. I picked up a copy at Herb Bauer's a couple years ago. Might want to look into it. I'd give you the info out of it, but the book is in a box somewhere in my folks garage out there, so no can do.

Also, there is a PG&E station in Balch Camp up near Pine Flat. They helped me out once when a land slide blocked me in along the Kings River. (Thats a whole nother story , but it ended with a front end loader, a chain saw, and a whole lot of earth moving!) A stop or call to them might be of good help. They were all pretty good fellas, so they might be able to tell ya if they've been seeing hogs running around.

Just make sure you have an alternate menu planned, as public land hog hunting is tough in California. The best place, I think, is Camp Roberts, off Highway 101. A good forum to check out is Jesse's - it has a lot of good info on California hunting. I believe his home pag has all the info on Camp Roberts and Hunter Liggett.

You might consider the Los Gatos Hot Springs area in Priest Valley. It would take some hiking but there are pigs in the area. Email me if you are interested further.

Hey guys, thanks for the posts! For a while it wasn't moving I thought nobody hunted pig in Ca!!

Gib, why would you want to move back here? :-) seriously everyone, I am going to show the list of spots to my stepfather and take a look on the map and hopefully get something figured out. I heard the Pine Flat thing from a lady at fish and game a couple weeks ago, but apparently their is private land surrounding the best spot to hunt them, so you have to cross a stream or the lake at some point to get over there. But that is just what I was told and showed on the map, I have not got up there to look myself yet.
