Juan, I'm so sorry to hear of your lost. How did Esquel die? You must be feeling realy bad about it. I still worry about losing my dog, either from a boar or just getting lost. I bought a radio collar and a cut vest for him as well as a cut collar, can't do much else. Serriously I might not hunt him at all, but he enjoys it so much.

I'm getting so attached to my dog it's ridiculous. I had to go home last week as my father was dying so I left Dogo in Arkansas with my wife. I really missed him and made sure she brought him with her when she came down. He can put a smile on my face in the worst of times.

By the way he has caught numerious hogs now and doing really well. I think I will start training him as a retriever as he is begining to show some intrest in that area.

Again I'm sorry for your lost, get you a nice dogo puppy soon, and I bet the smiles will soon return.

Regards,

Larry

Eleven years, no wonder you cared for him so much. I wouldn't give too much though about what you might have done had you been there, we all have a time to go and that's about it, it was just Esquel's time. Get that puppy soon, and remember the good times.

Jaun,
i know exactly your loss. When the Vet rang me to tell me my old freind had died. I felt, and still feel bad that I wasn't there for him.
The vets tell me that the best cared for dogs they see are the hunting dogs, I guess because the bond between dog and owner is tighter.
Larry,
for the same reason, I have retired my dog twice, but she just dosn't want to retire. If they are doing what they enjoy, then i feel the risk is worth it.

Juan,

I too am sorry for your loss and understand your sadness. 11 years is a long time to enjoy hunting together. I couldn't help noticing Esquel went head to head with the boar in each of those pictures...a big heart and no fear. It hurts when they go, however they go, but you will never forget him.

Take care.

Great pics! Good looking dogs. Sorry for your loss. I hunt hogs with dogs as well, my dogs are a part of the family. I lost a dog last summer after 9 years to an alligator. He was bayed on an old boar on the river bank and the gator came out of the water and got the dog right as we got to them.

I've heard of quite a few retrivers lost to gators while hunting ducks, but this is the first time I've heard of a dog lost while hunting hogs.

Why does it seem that bad things happen to the good ones??

I agree, Shankspony, Dogo was bred for pig hunting, its what he needs to do. I'm just a bit nervious because he hasn't come up on a really large boar yet. Hopefully he will use just a bit of caution, rather than his standard head on charge.

Dogo was breed for hog or puma hunting and they only real live if they are pursuing and catching big game ,my dogo PAIMUN 10 years ago fougth under the water with a coipo and killed it ,its a surprise to me that gators kill retrievers easily .Here gators arent so agressive.Juan

Juan retrivers and other dogs are lost to gators here fairly often, there are some rare cases of attacks on humans as well.

As for "Dogo" I getting more confident that he will do okay, the more I hunt with him.
It would be tragic to lose him, even the wife is begining to take a liking to him. The one aggravating habit he has is his continued licking, I can't get away from him. I never seen a more loyal dog, pretty smart too.

What's a coipo??
