Like I said in the other post, go out and enjoy it. The 458 WinMag doesn't really kick as much as some will have you think. You gonna scope it?

Thanks 475guy, I am unsure if I will or not. There are no marks on the top of the rifle and the man I bought the gun from said that since he has had it it has never had a scope on it. I may leave it the way it is until my eyes get bad

Whitworth - I bought some Speer 400gr flat nose and some 350gr round nose Hornadys to reload and get going for plinking, but I would like to find some nice ammo for under $60/box so I can buy a few up, like I have in the past for the Casull, 338, 30-06, 280, etc.

The gun weighs in at 8.5 lbs unloaded banana

Weighs as much (or as little) as my Mark X -- you'll know it when you touch off on the bench with full-boogie 500 grain loads!

Cheaper Than Dirt sells Hornady Heavy Mag (500 grains) for about $64.00 a box.......that's not outrageously priced.

Beautiful Rifle!!!!! I owned one of those in.458 when they cost $212.50 NEW!!!!!!!!!! Sorry I ever sold it, but it weighed 8#4oz. loaded, and the floorplate always flew open upon firing! Guess I'll have to get by with my Ruger RSM 416 Rigby. Good Shooting! Luke

KSTEPHENS -- a .22 LR behind the ear will most certainly drop any hog on the face of this earth! Big Grin But what if that shot doesn't present itself?? No, a .458 win mag isn't necessary, but you can kill a hog with it from virtually any angle -- and if the hog knows your hunting with a .458 win mag, you might even scare it to death! jumping

Nothing came in Frowner The oilfield crews were working late today and I think all of the commotion kept them away.

I get paid on Monday and then ill order some stuff for the .458! I dont want to shoot up those 500gr TBBC's if I dont have to, that will get expensive!

Wayne Dougna can whip you up some cast bullets for plinkers. Im sure they would do a number on a pig also. I have bought some for my 458 and 600. He is great to deal with and delivery once ordered was reasonable. He will make them hard or soft as you want. Nice rifle and good luck!

Looks like it moved you just a bit. I think you ought to ditch the earmuffs when firing the rifle since it doesn't allow you proper stock and cheek weld to fire it. If you have proper stock and cheek weld, your neck won't snap back independant of the rifle. Your whole body will be able to just ride back with the recoil as one unit. Get some custom-fitted earplugs and you'll see the diff.

lol On my 2nd shot in the video I had one of our rests inbetween the buttpad and my shoulder to try to calm the recoil...and it ended up adding like 3 inches of LOP to the gun so it looks kind of funky, but after 12 rounds without a PAST or slip on pad, I was needing something! You are right though I should use my lil ones that you just stick in your ears

Ok the photo is not the best, I have to take someone better, but on this hunting season I decided to use this:

This year my hunting squad decided that I have, absolutely, to hunt with a semiauto rifle. I decided to make them be embarassed about my hunting gear. Big Grin

I found at a discounted price (550Euro) this Remington 7400 carbine, then I saw the Knoxx stocks for it and I bought it.

Then I bought also a Blueforcegear sling and at the end this is the result. The problem is that many of the squad like it very much, they have some doubts only on the scope. killpc

Yes Sir!

So I dont know if I've said it already, but man does 510gr'ers expand!

We came over a sand dune to see 15 lil ones and 2 sows feeding under the feeder. The 2 sows immediately knew something was up and took off to the right taking the piglets with them. My friend and I started going down the dune toward them slowly and they took off on a run and I wasn't willing to risk a 300 yard shot with my open sight 458 Big Grin

So about an hour later I sat at the feeder not expecting anything when I start glassing the hills and see all of those pigs come running back to eat!! I waited for one of the sows to stay still and when she was facing me I sent a large chunk of lead downrange!!!

The big winchester soft point nailed her in the chest looking at me and exited out of her back leg, with a broken back leg and a 5.5" hole in her chest, she didn't even complain!! At impact she did fly 4 feet from where I hit her...I guess the .458 Win mag has enough energy at 60ish yards to throw 100lb pigs Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

I did a lil walk around video of the hog with my Camcorder and ill try to get that up soon, Although I didn't get the shot on video, I did get some video of them the first time they were at the feeder.

Yeah its a long read but hopefully when the video gets up all will be good!!!

Justin

Sorry, I went to bed and was at work from 7-3, im having trouble getting the mounts off of my newly acquired .243. Seems the previous owner put loctite on it and im worried of breaking the bolt off into the gun and having to drill it out
