I have shot some large hogs with the 165 gr BT in my 30/06 loaded to 2800 fps. I prefer the speer 180 gr RN over the nos bt. A non-premium bullet at velocity's that ensure bullet integrity will work, just make sure it's got enough weight, I prefer 180's in the 06.

Back when I was planning my first hunt I checked with various outfits and the concensus was to stay away from the BT if one wants to try for a bigger hog, particularly in close cover. The two I've taken have been with "intermediate" grade bullets and I'm glad I didn't go with something less stout. Hogs won't always co-operate and give you that perfect shot angle. Just clip the gristle plate on a big one and the whole scenario changes. For smaller, BBQ sized ones I imagine a BT would suffice. But what if that "monster" hog offers itself?
