Yesterday my girlfriend turned to me and said that she wouldn't mind hunting wild pigs. I said absolutely as I picked my lower jaw off the floor She is usually indifferent to hunting, but would love it if she started to join me. I was wondering if anyone on here knew of a place within a reasonable driving distance of Manhattan, KS where we could hunt a few. We are both Veterinary students at KSU so money is kindof an issue and don't really want to spend more than a couple hundred dollars for a weekend. I know some people want to get rid of them and will let you hunt for free, then online you will find places that charge several hundred dollars for a weekend. Just looking for any direction or someone to contact.

I wish I could help. I know you can not hunt wild boar in Kansas. The KDWP frowns on it. Oklahoma may be your best bet, but again, I do not know anyone that inexpensive.

Bascially, because even though there are a few of them wandering around here, the Wildlife dept has not legalized the taking of feral hogs as a game animal.

Due to the livestock ownership laws here, they don't want licensed hunters shooting any non- penned hog they come across.

So far, we don't have enough wild hogs here for it to be a problem, but that may change.

If a farmer/ rancher /landowner here has a problem with ANY feral animal- be it cats, dogs, or hogs, they just shoot the damn thing and either bury it or leave it for the Coyotes.

No govt. agency need be involved and it sure keeps the feral hog populations down.

I am betting it will change. I have been killing hogs on the same tracts of land here in S Texas for 25 yrs with no noticeable change in the numbers.Three yrs ago I took 243 hogs off a 1000 acre tract and could do it again! It is awfully hard to affect the population numbers long term when there is so much feed and cover. I have even caught them in the city limits.

The other approach that Kansas has taken is that no wild boar or feral pigs may be brought into the state or used in any sort of hunting preserve. The fines and jail time have discouraged the practice. They also heavily regulate the importation of feeder pigs as well, just for this reason.

I agree that they will get here, but as jim62 said, we don't need government regulations to take care of them once they do. One thing I have found about living here as opposed to some other states, is that if a farmer has a pest problem, be it coyote or whatever, they usually allow people to hunt them for free rather then charging a fee to kill their pests. It seems to work pretty well.
