I was able to get back in the blind yesterday where I had taken the small hog with my XD.45 a few weeks ago!
With a storm on its way I figured the hogs would be out moving earlier then usual and I was ready with face mask, boonie hat, & Peltor Tac-6 Electronic Earmuffs, I knew something was going to happen!

At about 8:56pm I heard what I thought was a pig (man I love electronic earmuffs) and so I went ahead and brought the hammer back on the Ruger SRH so that when they were at the feeder at a mere 20 yards I didnt spook them. With the gun aimed towards the feeder a lone fat sow came in to feed, only to be greeted by a 300gr XTP to the ear!

I was stoked, I really enjoy the .454 Casull...Such a perfect hog cartridge. The bullet entered right behind the ear and totally destroyed the other side of the head and exited, knocking the legs out from under the large female (200ish lbs) without a squeal or kick.

From earlier range reports and etc I have found that the Jacket seperates very quickly with this cartridge, but I dont mind that because there isn't too much in my area of hunting that needs a more heavily constructed bullet.

Sorry no pictures! I will go back out in a week or two and take pictures of the skull to show bullet performance and see what stuck around in the head and what exited.

I figure Whitworth will enjoy to see I FINALLY bloodied my Casull dancing

Cliffnotes:

1. Hog Down, head shot
2. Electronic ear muffs are the bomb

Here is a picture of the gun

I got two pictures with my phone but the quality is terrible. I figured a followup picture of the skull should reveal some possible Jacket or at least show the damage done

I am not sure when I will be back out hunting hogs, I may try next time Smiler

I still have more guns wanting to go out there Smiler
