Texas Javelina With My AR
I got back from the Rio Grande Valley last night. This morning I got up at 4:30 A.M. and headed to Knippa, Texas for a javelina hunt with Pope Brothers Outfitters. We met at the ranch for coffee at 6:15 A.M. Just before first light Joshua and Joseph, two of Clay's guides, and I headed down the road into the middle of the ranch. Joshua and I parked the truck and stalked down the two-track to where they had been seeing javelina's early in the morning.

As we rounded the bend we spotted a lone javelina off to the side of the road. As we stalked closer, we could see that he was a good one. I maneuvered to an opening in the bush and let the 65 gr. SBT fly. He did a "high-five" and keeled over. He weighed in at 45 pounds.

We walked back to the truck with the javelina and got Joseph. We drove down the road about a half mile and parked the truck again. We came up on another solitary boar. He was moving through the brush. I waited for him to move between some bushes and let the AR do its thing one more time.

We had two nice boars on the ground before 8:00 A.M. After loading up the second javelina, we headed back to the lodge for a great breakfast!!!

Nice rodents Bob. That first one is a big one. They don't get that big where I hunt. They don't get to live long enough.

JD,

Yep, it is the Sierra #1395 SBT. It is very accurate and so far does pretty well in the field. I use the 55 gr. #1365 SBT for predators in both my .223 AR and my bolt action 22-250.

I'm breaking out the 7MM STW for the pronghorn hunt this weekend though......

jeffeosso-I agree, perfect javelina medicine. I am working on the next few hog hunts.
