IMHO I like a tree close by to climb. I have been up one already this year down here in GA. I would say atleast somthing with the nock down power of a 357. 45ACP would work well. Esp with fallow up shots.

If you have a 1911-A1 or clone go to Walmart or such and get the Winchester 45 Automatic 230 gr BEB. It is a 230 gr Flat point bullet (ball). The inventory number is WC452. It is an improvement on ball ammo. I am a believer in flat point bullets; the full metal jacket feeds well and penetrates. Check it out. God Bless Packrattusnongratus.

When I'm hunting with a rifle I normally pack my Casull with me as well, but I've been wondering why as of late. It's tough being stealthy and quiet with that big hog iron dangling from my side. I'm not going to lug it around on my next hunt for the above mentioned reasons. Frankly, unless there's a plot by the group of hogs to attack you, then the additional firepower probably isn't necessary. I can always follow up my first shot with a second from my rifle. Bow hunting, which I have never done but would like to try probably has different requirements.
