Had the opportunity to do a little varmint calling Saturday evening. Didn't get to make my first set till about an hour before dark. Gave it heck for about 40 minutes. It was a beautiful Texas hill country evening. The gloaming is one of my favorite times to be afield. Temp about 65 degree F. Sliver of a moon over the hills in the west. Not a cloud in the sky. It was nigh on to dark and I'd stopped calling a couple minutes before a sounder of hogs came in. Big boar, a sow and about 15 shoats. Last year after a spirited discussion about whether a 223 Rem. was adequate for deer/hogs, I loaded up some 53 Gr. Barnes TSX for my Riihimaki chambered in 222 Rem. Nice mild load. These monometals don't tear up fur too bad and give one plenty of penetration. Since we're running a little low on pork, I figured the sow would be the best choice.  Gotta luv it. A 57 year old wood stocked Sako Riihimaki (almost old as me), 222 Remington, 1 in 16" twist, 53 gr. Barnes TSX.  Caught her just below the right eye.  Exit just below the left jowel. DRT (dirtnap 'rite there)  Gave me a chance to blood my new Randall. Yum, pulled pork is on the menu! Best GWB | ||

I like the results, thank you for sharing them with us. Pretty much proves the cartridge is enough when hit where it's supposed to go. Enjoy the feed! Geedubya- Does the 53 grain TSX stabilize adequately in the 1:16" twist at .222 velocities? I would have guessed it wouldn't. Congrats on the pork chops. I need some more myself. LWD | |||
