Did not get to sit night before last. Grand daughter's volleyball game was over early so went for a sit last night. Totally wrong for the start! Cows were at the barn I decided to give them some cubes to keep em away from the creek blind. They came running, acting stupid and friskey, bucking and kicking. One got jealous and hooked another. She jumped side ways and was going to body check me! Fortunately we have polite cows. Her reactions were quicker than mine when she realized it was me. She reversed coarse and only nudged me. I cussed her a blue streak. Parked the truck got everything ready to go. Wind was bad, right from the blind to the feeder. 50 yards from the truck one of the batteries for the digital hear protection started to quit, forgot glove. I always wear work gloves, might need to smash a wasp nest I did not go back. Got in the tower lite the Thermocell and put it in the south east corner. Breeze was blowing it away from and mosquitos found me fast. Moved it to the north west corner, better. Moved my chair a little farther forward to bring my nature point of aim a little lower. Maybe why I missed the other night. Focused the binos on the feeder and notice a dark spot to the left of the feeder! Watched it go from big and wide to long and narrow, animal! Deer or pig? Pigs do not have necks, A deer will always pick its head up and look around. Pig! It moved more in front of the lights, feeder had not gone off yet. Turned on the red dot in the reticle, put it on the widest part of the shoulder and touched it off. I saw it go down but could not see it for the dove weeds. Its head came up but I could not get get off a shot before it went down. Head came up again, but no time for a shot. Next thing I saw was a back leg come up and shake. Time to ease down there and look. Pig was still moving, lined up light and 22 revolver sights and it was over. 187.3 pound boar, biggest one in some time.

Haven’t actually weighed a hog in a while. I just put the tape measure on them and put their measurements in one of the on-line weight calculators. Need to weigh several of them and compare to the calculated weights.

The online weight calculators are for commercial tame hogs. My guess is that models run about 10-15% heavy compared to wild because of the differences in confirmation.
YMMV

Docbill—I only use the calculator as a gauge so I can compare to others I’ve shot. That’s why I put some that I shoot and measure on the scales and when the weather cools down a bit I will.

I have a small crane scale (0-600 lbs) and a receiver hitch winch crane. I always haul them away from the feeder anyway so it only takes a little extra to weigh them.

Live Oak--I have the same, but dragging the lift out of the truck, putting it in the receiver, assembling it, etc. is more than I have wanted to do in this summer's heat.
